Visit Santa and sleep under the Northern Lights in Lapland
Have you always wanted to meet and hug the real Santa Claus? The one, who lives in Arctic Circle in Finland. I have met him with my kids and I can assure you that fabulous moment was worth of every penny. Seeing the sparkling eyes and wide smiles of the kids sure warms up your body even if it’s freezing outside. And in Lapland it is cold, it might be even -30 °C... so, it’s wise to take your warmest coats, hats and boots with you.
The coolest place on the Arctic Circle
I have traveled quite a lot in Lapland during winter time and got really excited when I saw which incredible new accommodations Santa Claus village has to offer this winter season. Snowman World Glass Resort located in Pajakylä, Rovaniemi just next to Santa Claus opens 1st Dec 2017. Snowman World in the Arctic Circle has already offered snow and ice experiences to visitors from all over the world for ten years. In fact last year was a record year for tourism in Lapland and especially visitors from Asia and UK have found Finnish Lapland.
At least through awesome pictures, this place seems to be a perfect place for those who value luxury and want to get it all out from their holiday in winter wonderland. Snowman World Glass Resort offers luxurious accommodation just next door to Santa Claus Village, where Santa Claus has kept his office since 1985. Check out why Santa Claus has chosen Finnish Lapland to live in.
Santa Claus main office is, of course, the most important place to visit. It’s a place where fairytale becomes true… You can meet the one and only Santa Claus and capture the moment with camera. And don’t worry if you don’t speak Finnish, Father Christmas does speak many languages.
Another “must see” place is Santa Claus Main Post Office. Father Christmas receives almost half a million letters from all around the world every year. Be sure you write your own postcard and get an official Santa Claus postmark on it. We did that with the help of postal elves and grandparents were happy to receive a traditional postcard instead of a message on their phone. Moreover underneath the Arctic Circle there is a cave called Santa Park. After this miraculous tour you are more than ready to have a goodnight sleep under the Northern Lights…
Warm & cosy atmosphere under the Northern Lights
Glass constructions have been very popular in Lapland lately. Entrepreneur Petri Palkinen wanted to respect lappishness in his own product and the original architecture of the original Lapps “Kota” has become a modern accommodation product.
As you can see from the pictures the large windows and glass ceiling provide an unrestricted view of the northern sky and natural phenomena, the Northern Lights. So, you have a good possibility to be the lucky one and see Auroras, if you don’t fall asleep right away. Did you know that in Lapland you can see the Northern Lights on average 200 nights of the year?
Finns do have some strange habits, they do like undress and dip into cold water after sauna. Luckily these new apartments have private sauna and outdoor hot tub, so foreign visitors can just relax and enjoy the “fox fires” as a direct translation from Finnish into English goes without needing to freeze in the ice hole.
After a good-night sleep under the northern lights prepare to eat delicious Nordic breakfast in a warm atmosphere at Restaurant Ensilumi. Any idea what that might include? At least there is coffee, while Finns drink the most coffee in the world (12 kg/person/year). Another Finnish specialty at breakfast table is oatmeal... it doesn’t look very appealing, but the taste is good when it’s served with for example wild berries. At Christmas time they usually change oatmeal to rice porridge.
Call to Snowman Resort reveals these new luxury glass apartments have received a good reception and have attracted interest even as far as from Singapore and Hong Kong. Snowman World and the new Glass Resort is open from December to the end of March. Here you can find more information of all delicacies or you can contact: [email protected], Tel. +358 40 519 4444.
