*    @snowsurvive​    —    SENDER  IS  DISCOVERED  HAVING  A  PANIC  ATTACK  BY  THE  RECEIVER    (   CASSANDRA  &  PERCIVAL   ) 

PERCY   IS   NOT   ONE   TO   BE   KNOWN   FOR   DELAYED   REACTIONS.         but   here,   coming   into   the   sitting   room   and   finding   cassandra   in   this   state,   he   is   frozen   in   the   doorway   for   far   too   long.      and   when   he   joins   her,   sitting   beside   her   on   the   chaise   lounge,   it   is   slow   and   uncertain.      he   sits,   hands   in   his   lap,   staring   into   the   hearth   before   them,   and   his   own   breaths   are   uneven   and   labored.

“      cass?      cassandra?      ”            he   starts   simply      —      doesn’t   know   anything   else   when   it   comes   to   this   sort   of   thing.            “      i      —      i   don’t   know   what   to   do,   i’m   sorry.      what   is   it   i   should   do?      ”            percy   can   barely   manage   his   own   fears      —      his   own   feelings,   his   own   panics      —      let   alone   his   little   sister’s.      he   barely   knows   her,   and   she   him;      what   can   he   do?

 THERE’S   SOMETHING   ABOUT   SNOW     that   feels   like   a   punch   to   the   gut.   when   she   dreams   of   the   past   ⸻   the   future   ⸻   it’s   always   the   bite   of   eiselcross   pinching   at   her   skin,   bodies   huddled   together   for   warmth.   this   morning,   she   woke   up   and   realised   she   can’t   remember   her   friends’   voices   ;   knows,   empirically,   that   caleb   has   a   zemnian   accent,   that   fjord   had   two,   that   caduceus   sounded   like   how   she   imagines   a   calm   sea   would   sound   like.   but   the   pitch   of   them   all,   the   cadence,   elude   her.

 there   is   something   that   settles   her   heart   in   @snowsurvive’s   presence.   a   kinship   of   sorts,   both   thrust   into   danger   so   very   young,   though   jester   cannot   help   but   be   selfishly   glad   that   somewhere,   maybe   in   the   chateau   already,   her   mother   is   breathing.   the   library   is   quiet,   jester’s   sketchbook   open   in   her   lap,   sketching   cassandra’s   profile,   when   the   question   slips   out   of   her   unbidden,   a   bird   in   flight,         ❝     do   you   remember   what   they   sounded   like   ??   your   family   ??     ❞         then,   more   panicked,         ❝     you   totally   don’t   have   to   answer   it’s   just   ⸻   i   just   ...   don’t.   maybe   there’s   a   spell   for   it   ??     ❞

PERCY’S   OVERGROWN   HAIR   FLOPS   INTO   HIS   EYES   AS   HE   SHUFFLES   ALONG,   HEAD   DOWN.         mary,   the   head   of   the   kitchens   and   staff,   looks   half   afraid   and   half   apologetic   when   she   sends   him   up   here   to   clean   the   fireplaces:      here,   to   a   room   he’s   not   been   in   nearly   a   year   now.      here,   to   his   sister’s   chambers,   where   he’s   not   been   permitted   to   be.      he   doesn’t   delay,   in   spite   of   the   anxiety   and   .   .   .      perhaps   pain?      but   he   isn’t   meant   to   be   sad   about   any   of   this      —      isn’t   supposed   to   act   as   though   any   ties   to   this   place   and   these   people   belong   to   him   at   all.      outside   the   castle   walls,   after   all,   percival   de   rolo   is   dead   and   gone   with   the   rest   of   his   family.      he’s   mostly   gone   within   the   walls   as   well.      but   he   keeps   his   head   down   and   knocks      —      and   if   his   hands   shake   while   waiting,   there’s   no   one   here   to   see.

        Kynan starting his own family is so important to me. He didn’t have a good childhood, and his anxiety about getting things wrong is so, so high. But through years of getting close to and talking in depth with Cass, it’s something they wanted. UPDATED 2/11/22, changes bolded.

OLDEST CHILD, ADOPTED: Theresa Ava Paulina de Rolo, daughter. Half elf drow. Divine soul sorcerer. Tess was an orphaned refugee that had been brought to Whitestone. Cass bonded with the little girl while trying to find her a home, she and Kynan adopting her after several long conversations. Kynan and Tess first bonded over him sharing snacks and giving her little gifts while she followed Cassandra around. She was given the opportunity to choose her own middle names, settling on Ava and Paulina. Due to drow sensitivity to light, her uncle Percival invents transition lens glasses for her.

SECOND CHILD, BIOLOGICAL: Johanna Allura de Rolo, daughter. Forge domain cleric. Soon after adopting Tess, Cassandra surprised Kynan with the news that they would be having another child, this time as she was pregnant. Anxiety high, the two prepared for a baby as well as took the time to make sure Tess knew she was still beloved by her parents. Josie found her love and power for creation while assisting her uncle in his forge. She’s very stubborn and blunt, and being outspoken can make her sometimes seem unkind. A comparison to the passed de Rolo twins has been made. She often makes bullets and other things for her siblings. 

THIRD CHILD, ADOPTED: Julian Uriel de Rolo, son. Changling, druid of the land (underdark). A baby left at the children’s home, Julian waited for a home that would want him. Kynan, volunteering at the home, fell in love with the small boy the first moment he saw him. Kynan would tell Cass about the little boy having a hard time finding a home due to his body changing. Talking with Cassandra, they adopted the boy and named him after Cassandra’s oldest brother and the fallen sovereign of Tal'dorei (Cassandra was in contact with Uriel’s widow, seeking advice about adopting children). Julian wears a bracelet that can change as he shifts, the band holding a charm that is the crest of Whitestone. This bracelet is to identify him, and while there is no consequences for him removing it, his parents have instilled a responsibility of keeping the bracelet on him at all times. 

FOURTH CHILD, BIOLOGICAL: Shaun Jarett de Rolo, son. Gunslinger. Cass and Kynan thought their family was big enough, that they were comfortable with what they had. Until Cass found out she was pregnant again, giving them their fourth and last child. He was named after a close family friend as well as Kynan’s father figure. Shaun bonds with his father through a shared talent for gunmanship.

*    @snowsurvive​​    —    YOU  MADE  A  RASH  DECISION  WITHOUT  NOTIFYING  ME    (   CASSANDRA  &  PERCIVAL   ) 

WHEN   HE   GIVES   UP   THE   POWER   HE   WILL   INHERIT   TO   HIS   SISTER,   THIS   IS   WHAT   HE   AGREES   TO   AS   WELL.         he   agrees   to   cassandra’s   authority   being   the   highest   in   whitestone      —      to   her   being   the   head   of   their   family,   of   their   house,   of   their   city.      and   for   the   most   part,   that   suits   percy   well.      he   does   not   wish   for   his   face   in   the   public   eye;      he   does   not   wish   for   power   that   politics   provide.      he   much   prefers   the   quiet   solitude   of   his   workshop      —      of   his   work   rebuilding   whitestone   and   reestablishing   trade   and   commerce   with   his   connections   from   vox   machina.      but   sometimes   .   .   .      sometimes   he   forgets.      and   sometimes   the   older   brother   he   is   before   their   family   is   torn   asunder   resurrects   to   smart   at   cassandra’s   chiding.   

“      you   have   given   me   the   responsibility   of   architecturally   restructuring   the   city,      ”            he   replies,   traces   of   frustration   peppering   his   words.            “      i   did   not   expect   you   would   wish   to   oversee   every   aspect   of   my   work   when   i   am   more   than   capable   of   executing   it   without   troubling   you,   my   lady.      ”   

the   situation   could   do   without   the   sarcasm,   he   is   sure.      but   percy   is   also   sure   that   he   cannot   quite   help   himself   in   this   moment.

RETCHING   INTO   THE   TOILET,   PERCY   CAN   ALMOST   CONVINCE   HIMSELF   CASSANDRA   ISN’T   LAUGHING.         she   runs   her   fingers   soothingly   through   his   hair,   comforting   him   as   best   she   can,   but   he   can   only   imagine   how   funny   she   finds   this      —      how   he’ll   hear   about   this   over   and   over   again   for   months   to   come.   

“      u-ugh,      ”            he   groans,   reaching   with   a   shaking   hand   to   flush,   nearly   collapsed   against   the   toilet,   flopped   like   a   trembling   leaf   on   the   bathroom   floor.            “      i’m   n-never   drinking   again   .   .   .      ”            damn   all   his   fucking   friends   for   suggesting   a   drinking   game.      he   hopes   they’re   all   in   similar   straits      —      serves   them   right   if   they   are.

          Ashton felt his damaged eye twitch, knowing it was silly to be so worked out about an argument over nothing. Instead of responding to her, they took a deep breath and turned on their heels, leaving the room to walk to her kitchens. He looked inside the fridge, pulling out one of the small round sandwiches and returning to the study he'd left Cass in with the sandwich still wrapped. Slowly, to cause annoyance, they tore open the plastic, crinkling it to make noise before taking a bite. After chewing and swallowing, he nodded to her.     “ I guess this is fine. You still shouldn't avoid real emotions. ”     They stated before taking another bite.
