What if...
Nothing in season two has changed except for one minor detail. Peter and Derek sink their claws into Jackson, sure that this is the only way to rid themselves of the Kanima once and for all. He falls to the ground, his breathing stops, and for several minutes, they’re all certain that he’s dead. But the wounds heal, and he begins breathing again. However, the glimpses of scales don’t disappear from his skin completely, remaining on his hands, arms, and neck.
He stumbles his way to his feet again, but before Lydia can throw her arms around her, his eyes flash ---- a bright yellow-green, not unlike the eyes of the reptilian creature that had already killed so many. He has no idea what she sees, only that he’s alive. Peter doesn’t hesitate, claws already out to go for round two. Jackson looks down, sees his own arms, covered in the blue-green scales still.
“ No ---- it’s me ---- it’s me, I swear ---- ” Lydia steps between him and Peter, followed by Scott. Maybe they don’t completely believe him yet, but they at least don’t want him to die. He’s allowed to speak, to try and convince them that it’s really him ---- it’s really Jackson.
It takes time ---- he’s not sure that anyone really trusts him for weeks, months even ; and he doesn’t blame them. He’s alive, he’s himself, but he’s not a wolf. He’s not like them. He has claws and fangs, but they’re more reminiscent of the Kanima’s than a werewolf’s. From his yellow-green eyes to the scales on his skin, he mirrors the Kanima in physicality. No matter how much he swears it’s him in control, one slip-up and he knows they’ll never give him another chance.
But worse than the lack of trust is the inability to look at himself the same anymore. Seeing his claws brings him right back to it all, and he can’t stop seeing the blood on his arms. So he leaves. Because he can’t see Beacon Hills the same way again ---- and it’s all because of his own greed, his own mistakes. He can’t turn into the Kanima again, but the thing he’s become, somewhere between a werewolf and a Kanima, revolts him.

Partial Transformation: Similar to Werewolf transformations in that it’s only a partial change. Transforming is more difficult to control on a full moon, but with practice becomes manageable. He does not have the ability to fully transform.
Eyes: Turn to a neon yellow-green with black slits, reptilian in nature. This is also something that can vary depending on control. He can make just the black slits visible, or the full extent with the yellow-green. The full eye change comes with enhanced vision, whereas just the slits is a mere physical change.
Claws: On his hands, his nails extend to long claws, almost translucent in color. They are slightly longer than a werewolf’s and lighter in color. The claws have a severe dose of venom in them that causes paralysis when used. The secretion of this venom can be controlled, but takes significant amounts of practice. Teeth: All teeth extend slightly and become pointed, the canines longer than the rest. Unlike a werewolf, changes in teeth are not limited to just the canines, but it’s not quite as extreme as the full Kanima.
Scales: Similar to the way a werewolf has additional facial hair during a transformation, Jackson’s skin breaks out in scales in certain areas. Scales cover his hands and go up to about his elbow, as well as on his neck and extend up to frame his face. Scales can appear on other areas of his body, but may appear in glimpses or pulsing flashes. Ultimately, he can control how much or how little these appear on his body.
OTHER ABILITIES THAT TAKE PLACE REGARDLESS OF THE MOON OR WHETHER HE IS IN A PARTIAL TRANSFORMATION:
Rapid Healing: Normally induced injuries (scratches, bruises, fractures, sprains, etc.) will heal in a matter of minutes. Major injuries may take longer, or those caused by an Alpha or certain types of supernatural creatures. He is unable to maintain the effects of alcohol or controlled substances the way that humans are. If large quantities are consumed, they can have a minor impact for a short period of time.
Heightened Senses and Stamina: All of his senses (hearing, smell, sight, etc.) are dialed to an extreme at all times. He is extremely aware of his surroundings and can hone in on other senses, such as emotions. He is also physically stronger and more capable, able to perform for longer periods of time.
Scent Masking: Can disguise his own scent to make himself more difficult for other supernatural creatures to detect. This is a difficult ability and requires a significant amount of practice.
WEAKNESSES:
Mountain ash acts as a barrier.
He cannot transform while submerged in water ; likewise, submerging him into a pool of water would break his transformation.
Extreme cold is harmful for long periods of time and can weaken him severely, potentially causing hypothermia at a much more rapid pace than a normal human. Likewise, his body temperature is generally very low.
Mistletoe, bluebonnets, chrysanthemums, and hemlock are all extremely toxic if ingested or otherwise enter the bloodstream or inhaled. Wolfsbane does not have an effect.
