mason mason urgent question (/j) for bone nerd , fun facts ? or cool piccies , bone content
hello mala, am bone nerd (has only taken one physiology class)
i personally think the hyoid bone is very cool. it’s the only bone in our body that is not connected to any other bone. it’s not vestigial though, as it helps with swallowing and tongue movement. :)
another one for fun: the idea that women have more rib bones than men is completely false. The average person has 12, but you can potentially be born with an extra set! This is informally known as gorilla rib, as primates like chimps and -obviously- gorillas naturally have 13 sets. There is only a 1-2 percent chance of this happening, so not very common. definitely something passed down from our ancestors! :)
