22 Juke
From this drabble challenge. About 5 years and a couple fandoms later. Here ya go!
22. I don’t know why I married you.
Never did Julie think that she would end up here.
Settled in a beautiful beach house, financed by a successful music career, and, what might be the biggest plot twist no one ever saw coming, all with a former ghost as her husband by her side.
Peering over her journal, pen paused mid-lyric, Julie watched Luke bop around the kitchen, creating one of his pancake monstrosities.
It might be from all the years he had spent as a ghost, but Luke had developed a rather interesting habit of concocting the weirdest flavor profiles known to man.
Reggie had hypothesized it had something to do with making sure his taste buds still worked.
Alex just thought that Luke had weird taste from the start.
"'I got the music, streaming from my soul...'" Luke sang, sprinkling powdered cheese from the macaroni box all over his stack, "'And it's stronger than before'"
Julie pushed down the urge to giggle at the display. Instead, she pretended to tut at the scene in front of her.
"I don't know why I married you" she deadpanned.
Luke threw his head back, laughing out loud.
"You know what?" he scrunched his nose at her, "I don't know why you married me either."
Julie rose from the table, her writing materials forgotten, and strode over to Luke, coming upon him from behind, her arms wrapping around his midsection.
In her dinosaur slippers, she tried to crane her neck over his shoulder but to no avail. Instead, Luke twisted around, draping his arm around his shoulder. Together, side by side, they admired Luke's culinary masterpiece.
"Nah, I do know" Julie looked up at him, "We speak the same language."
Luke leaned into her, "English."
Julie swatted him, "Music, dummy."
"Of course," Luke grinned, kissing the top of Julie's head, "The girl who brought me back to life."
"Oh, is that why you married me, then?" she sassed, "Because I said some spell?"
"Come on, Jules. You brought me back to life long before that. Singing with you? Nothing made me feel more alive."
Julie grinned stupidly. She wanted to tell him, 'I love you. I love our life. I love the music we make and what the music made us'
But he already knew all that. Instead, she told him the next best thing.
"Want to write after breakfast?"
Luke nodded, as excited as he was back when he had been 17 for the last time.
"Always"
