Hoarders 101: Closet edition - 5 steps

For the past two years, I have been more accepting of the minimalist lifestyle. I tried to get rid of as much clothing that I barely use because they take up so much unnecessary space! I fully agree with the 20/80 or 80/20 rule: We utilize 20% of our possessions 80% of the time, meanwhile the 80% of our possessions just collect dust in boxes. I truly encourage you to spend one hour per month, to go through your closet and dispose/donate items that you do not use! Trust me, you will not miss them after they’re gone.

Separate clothing into two different piles: ‘Love it’, ‘Okay with it’

Inspect clothes in ‘Okay with it’ pile and ask yourself: When was the last time I’ve worn this?

If have not worn that piece of clothing for the past 3 years of your life. Trust me, you will probably not wear it for the next 3 years either.

Inspect and try on items in ‘Love it’ pile

Only keep items if they’re still in good condition, and if they flatter your body

This is the most basic method to organize your closet. Trust me, keeping that leopard dress that was on trend in 2007 will only collect dust and hold you back from a organized life!
