What I really love about TWF is that the Walten family is not perfect. A lot of fans, and I do understand this, latched onto the idea of the Waltens as this picturesque sort of ideal of a family. And I think that's understandable, like I said, both because it's a nice thought for a series so dark and because it's an easy way to get attached and feel the tragedy of the losses the family faced, but then a lot of them were then disappointed and unhappy with the imperfect, messy, broken family that Faces of Grief presented us with. But I think it's genius.
Jack and Rosemary are not a perfect couple, and they're not perfect parents or perfect people at all. God knows this episode absolutely emphasized a lot of the failures of both Jack and Rosemary. But they don't have to be perfect or even that good for what happened to them to still be a horrible tragedy. They don't have to be saints to not deserve such a terrible fate. Their imperfections don't justify their suffering.
