when practicing art, how did you keep yourself motivated and avoid being discouraged?
that’s a really good question! i guess giving up was just never an option because at a certain point i realized ‘oh shit im going to be doing this forever’ and decided the only way to go is forward. every day i see art by people who are much more talented than me bc they have spent more hours practicing their craft, and i have to keep reminding myself that if i ever want to catch up, i have to keep a work ethic of some kind
i don’t think anyone is born with innate talent, it’s all a matter of how many hours you put into it. the times ive been most frustrated have been in academic situations, just looking around the room and seeing that nearly everyone was a better observational artist than me, but again u gotta keep in mind that you will never catch up to that level if you let yourself get discouraged! artistic skill isnt something that can be easily quantified, it’s a lifelong process. im still learning and i still have to think about this every day
also it helps that ive put so much fuckign money into this thing that now i Have to monetize eventually so i just gotta keep truckin (and fuckin)
