Further thoughts on how (in regards to Reverse Robins aus) Tim shouldn't be Red Hood? I've been having many thoughts on this and would love to hear more !!

oooh okay so, firstly, to each their own, obviously.

Tim as Red Hood just. bothers me so much. I kind of get the appeal of reverse robins but I agree with the things you've reblogged today — reverse robins should be a dissection of how a different order of kids would affect Bruce, and how those characters would be different in those different circumstances.

and there are a million different ways to do it, it's just the ones where Tim is Red Hood, it usually reads, to me, that Tim is just given Jason's characteristics without consideration to Tim's character?

like, the whole reason Jason becomes the Red Hood is very much a reflection of Jason's life and who he was before he died. Jason is insecure and anxious about his place in the family before he dies because of his insecure childhood. he dies because he has a deep rooted sense of responsibility for his family from taking care of Catherine before she died.

he arranged the circumstances of utrh because he needs Bruce to prove he didn't die for nothing, that he mattered. those are the desires of a child that grows up wanting. he has his stances on vigilantism and killing because he comes to fundamentally disagree with Bruce. due to his life experiences.

even if you dropped Tim into Jason's life from an infant, he's a different character and I think he would come out different, even with all the same trauma.

so Tim as Red Hood just feels inauthentic to both of their characters. Tim is insecure in his place in the family, but because of his parents' emotional neglect and because of the way he entered the bat system (as Robin, not as a son).

I think Tim is pretty fucking unhinged in his own ways in canon that are fun and interesting! and those things could be applied to a reverse robins au and it could be interesting! it could be commentary! it could be anything besides continuing to hand Tim Jason's trauma and traits!

14 - If you could see one of your fics adapted into a visual medium, such as comic or film, which fan fic would you pick? oh man. I consume a lot of TV shows and movies, like, I once tried to make a list of all the TV shows I’ve ever watched and I got distracted somewhere in the 200s. anyway, I love TV as a medium and sometimes I have to stop myself from writing as though my thing is a TV show, if that makes any sense? I think something in the static as a TV show would be so cool

20 - What’s a favorite title for a fic you’ve written? seventeen going under. I’ll never top that, I’m afraid

29 - Share a bit from a fic you’ll never post OR from a scene that was cut from an already posted fic. (If you don’t have either, just share a random fic idea you have that you don’t plan on getting to.) okay okay okay. I don’t know for sure that I never plan on finishing this bc I have like.

a whole fucking thing outlined. but I have no current plans for it. this scene is from a fic where Jason is Red Hood and he’s semi-reconciled with, like, Dick and Babs. Tim and Damian are studying him like a bug. he finds it all very annoying. Steph and Jason are buddies. Bruce can go fuck himself, he’s emotionally constipated. anyway. it’s a Bruce Being a Bitch fic, thinking Jason came back different but really Bruce is the one that changed. and I just don’t have it in me to write that rn

this part is quite a bit into the fic, after Bruce realizes that Jason isn’t the monster Bruce has been pretending he is. (featuring my favorite Jason trope: looking after a warehouse full of homeless kids)

“I’m sorry, Jason,” Bruce said, so quietly, Jason almost didn't hear.

“This is their safe place, B. I would have given anything to have this when I was a kid. You do not get to just show up here.”

“Jay —“

“I don’t care,” Jason shook his head and turned away. “Do you remember the first couple of weeks I spent at the manor? I had a meltdown because I couldn’t figure out what set you off, I couldn’t figure it out. And I broke down and I asked you when you were going to fucking hit me.”

Jason turned back around, staring into the blank mask of Batman. “And you told me that you wouldn’t. You promised and then you spent the next year trying to prove that to me. I promised these kids I would keep them safe and there’s one big difference between you and me. Do you know what it is?”

Jason gave him a minute. The last few drops of hope evaporating as the silence stretched on. Jason wanted to scream. He wanted to take Bruce by the shoulders and shake him.

Bruce didn’t answer.

“I keep my fucking promises.”

7 - what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

oh god, I honestly don't think there is anyone? I kind of hate how some people portray Sokka (confusing comic relief with being useless/not smart when he is literally so smart) but no one could ever make me hate Sokka

17 - there should be more of this type of fic/art

non-ship related stuff, honestly. people have been fighting over who to ship Katara with for like twenty years now, when that is like the least interesting thing about her. (that being said, I have curated my atla experience a lot more these days and I see a lot of non-ship things. but for a while all the discourse I saw was ship related until I started filtering a lot of things out)

22 - your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

I don't think I'm deep enough in the discourse to really know what people ignore tbh, but I think it's very easy to ignore the fact that atla is, at it's core, about the hardships of war.

I've seen some portrayals of the fire nation that don't really align with the ways it was portrayed in the show (ignoring how deep the propaganda ran, how the people were robbed of their history, how classist the society was, how many people did not even know what was going on, etc). something can be evil and also sympathetic at the same time, and the show really tried to explore how something like the fire nation could come to be and I think we ignore that a lot to just make Big, Scary, Evil Bad Guys
