The below snippet comes from my next chapter of my re-write of my Post-Flock series fic, Soaring.

Honest and real conversations were always awkward growing up in this house. Why would that have been any different now that Ethan was a parent himself now? “Has there been any change?” Keeping his voice even, Ethan replied, “She’s stable.” “Good.” A lengthy pause followed before his dad tacked on, “But that’s not the same as better, son.” At that, Ethan's head snapped up, his bluish-green eyes narrowing dangerously on his father. “No.” They were not having this conversation, especially not in front of a innocent three-year-old who deserved to have his childhood un-marred by the burdens of adults already. He refused to let his son lose his chance at a decent childhood.

Writing two emotionally taxing fics at the same time is so difficult at times. You want to write, but you find yourself not having the mental capacity to do so because work drained all that out of you.

If you've been following me for a bit now, you know I don't like to write multiple fics at once because I always feel like I'm not giving the writing the effort and time they deserve. But, well, yours truly is an impatient person. So here we are.

WIP Wednesday Snippet time

The below snippet comes from the next chapter of "Soaring," my re-write fic. It's a heavy emotional fic, but one that's a definite labor of love because I positively love checking on my Post-Flock family. This one features a sweet scene between Uncle Jakey and his favorite nephew.

Curious now by them stopping once they reached the sofa in the living room, the sweet boy tilted his head. He didn’t see his grandpa or daddy anywhere down here. In fact, it looked like it usually did whenever his Uncle Jake spent the night. But something inside told him this was different from the past times his uncle stayed over. “Where’s Daddy?” he asked after a few moments. His bottom lip trembled as he waited for his uncle’s response. “Asleep, Sam-I-Am,” answered his uncle, using one of his many names for the toddler. “He was pretty scared, too. Just like Grandpa Mav even was.” He then lowered his voice and tilted his head to meet Sammy’s curious gaze. “Like I am, Sammy,” he whispered to him. “You are?” His bluish-green eyes widened comically as his mouth hung open in utter shock. But . . . but his Uncle Jake never seemed to be scared before. He always was big and strong and brave like Spiderman.

(Finally got time to do this today. Yay!!!!)

Last Song: The Madison soundtrack. I'm obsessed with that entire soundtrack and have been playing it on repeat for weeks, specifically ever since I finished that first season.

Favorite Color: Lake Superior green, but sometimes blue.

Currently Watching: Mondays are devoted to The Rookie. Tuesdays are my NCIS Origins peeps. Wednesdays are One Chicago night. Thursdays are devoted to one Olivia Benson in SVU (always). Once the primetime shows go into hiatus, though, I'll be watching Dutton Ranch and The Boys (probably). Anyway, clearly I watch too much TV.

Current Obsession: I mean, Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick lifer here. But also The Pitt, The Madison, Ludwig, Ambassadors, and White Lotus.

Currently working on: Soaring (Rewrite) [Post-Flock Series fic featuring Amelia and flock family], Third Wheel at Mach 5 [Darkstar AU fic], and The Sunday Incident [PennyMav Post TGM]. However, let me assure there are many more on the back burner itching to be written once I have time. I have no shortage of fic bunnies.
