Sobek-Ra Collar Aegis and Stunning Counterpoise (1069-664 BC) - Third Intermediate Period Sobek-Ra 𓋴𓃀𓎡𓇳𓏤 “sbk-rˁ” (god with the head 𓁶𓏤 “tp” of a crocodile, standing, crown of Tatenen 𓊪𓏏𓎛𓇾𓍿𓇑𓇑𓀭 “ptḥ t3-ṯnn”, holding, was scepter, ankh sign); divine boat; sphinx (standing). Condition of the work: missing crown. The highlight of this extraordinary piece is the detailed design of the counterpoise. Inscription: 𓋴𓃀𓎡𓇳𓏤𓎟𓊃𓏠𓈖𓊖𓁷𓏤𓈘𓏤𓈅𓇋𓂋𓈗𓊖 “sbk-rˁ nb smnu ḥr mr ı͗rmw” ‘Sobek-Ra, lord of Semnu upon the Lake of Irmu” Dimensions Length: 18.7cm Materials and techniques Material: copper alloy (black bronze?) The Great Lord comes to me with gaping jaws, Eternal night in his maw. He is the baking sun that blisters the flesh, and the cool kiss of mint that chases the burn. He smells of coconut oil and the ocean salt that clings to his skin, thick and sweet and bitter and suffocating all at once. I seep his scent from my blood like the sweetest  of perfumes. He tosses fresh fish into the frier whole and laughs if the oil tries to pop at him— it would never dare. 
 When did you toss me to the frier, my Lord? This is no sink or swim. This is restless fire in my stomach. This is just inferno.
