Yo, Taipei! Sobs are playing The Wall live house on September 9th! =D
Hey! In case you missed the original live stream on March 6th, here is the full set & interview w/ Sobs on Audiotree Live! (posted today) =D
5 songs and 2 interview segments. High quality a/v (I wonder if that close-up camera made Celine nervous?)
Air Guitar, Last Resort, chat, Telltale Signs, Catflap, chat, LOML
Links: Bandcamp, Spotify, Instagram, Topshelf Records (YouTube), Middle Class Cigars (YouTube, SoundCloud) Sobs twitter
Celine Autumn-voc (Cayenne IG, Spotify, Twitter, YouTube, Bandcamp, SoundCloud), Jared Lim-gtr (also in SUBSONIC EYE, solo as Jorud-Bandcamp), Raphael Michael Ong-gtr (Fr. Middle Class Cigars label)
Zhang Bo-bass/b. voc (Cosmic Child, Blush),
Shaun Khiu-drums (ex-Monster Cat)
Soffi Peters-Synth (aka Sofklo: Sofklo Instagram, Bandcamp, SoundCloud, member of Blush.)
A few days earlier on the Sobs US tour, they also did a live set at KEXP in Seattle, also excellent in case you missed that *live stream. The first 2 songs are different from the Audiotree set:
*The original KEXP live stream was audio-only, but this the full video!
Burn Book, Astronomy, Air Guitar, Last Resort.
Sobs just announced a short Japan tour. =D
We are coming back to meet all of you in Japan! ✈️ 🇯🇵
Tickets on sale 4/8 10AM → sobs.live/tour
All the venues and bands are tagged in this post.
And KEXP just now uploaded the 4 songs from the set filmed on March 3rd.
Here they are in Chicago a couple of days later:
Celine Autumn - Vocals Jared Lim - Lead Guitar (Jared also mixed the KEXP set) Raphael Ong - Rhythm Guitar Zhang Bo - Bass Shaun Khiu - Drums Soffi Peters - Synths
A six-act journey from island grooves to hip-hop chaos
A feature by WAYNE LIM for The Austin Chronicle, recapping the Taiwan Beats Showcase. =D
He also praised Sobs for coming thru so well under trying circumstances (Bad weather, altered set time, only one rehearsal w/ the substitute drummer)
CLARA WANG of The Austin Chronicle profiled 9m88 ahead of her 2 sets in Austin. Baba went back to NYC and played in Brooklyn on Sunday night. (Music Hall of Williamsburg - SOLD OUT.) Would love to post a clip if anybody spots something on YT.
Here’s a clip from the show I saw last Sunday, Sobs at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn. The uploader (joelrchan) has 2 more clips. He was right up front, me and my brother were in the back.
It was a full house in a small venue, great atmosphere. Louder than I expected, too. :O
I updated my previous post on the show with a bit more detail, incl. a setlist link and a photo of both bands (Sobs & Mei Semones) together backstage. (by ‘backstage’ I mean in the restaurant area of the venue. Merch table was in that area.
One more thing I saw on IG, Sobs had a substitute drummer (Jake Villarreal from the Austin band Glaze) for at least one set at SXSW; no idea why Shaun Khiu wasn’t on the kit, maybe he had to return early to Singapore? (Oh, I see Shaun posted a photo from Sydney, Australia a few days ago, perhaps that trip was planned before the sxsw dates were finalized?)
UPDATE: Just noticed this Topshelf Records twitter post from Feb. 6th:
topshelf records@topshelfrecords we’re looking for an Austin-based fill-in drummer for a band on our roster during SXSW. serious inquiries only pls. contact [email protected] for more information. ty!
(Someone tagged Jake on twitter so maybe that’s how things got hooked up)
Another angle of the same song as above. Short clip, but you get a better sense of the crowd grooving to the crazy electro ending:
Packed house for Sobs last night in Brooklyn 🎶😊👍
Such a great show, including the opening act Mei Semones. Sobs played every song I hoped to hear plus a bunch more, including 2 covers. Crowd was enthusiastic and appreciative. Bartenders were efficient, 😂
Mei's band on the right (Mei on guitar, w/ a violinist & a violist. Her full band usually includes bass & drums, but this arrangement was excellent!)
All in all, a great night and I hope they do well at sxsw! 😊
