ok so actual question here instead of bullying you as an activity. was watching gmo documentary. seemed sketchy at best. what's the verdict on gmos. bad or good or gray or halp
I would say ‘gray’ at this point tbh. it is... really difficult to find unbiased sources on them because something about food science makes everyone lose their goddamn minds. The Science (tm) thus far mostly says there’s not much health risk in eating them, although there was one study were a GM potato (? I think?) gave rats some horrible side-effect. iirc that study wasn’t done very well and was either disproven or found not replicable, but it still gets cited a lot.
BUT! the FDA is still around so it’s not like you’re going to accidentally buy apples still soaking in gene editing juice, or corn someone’s accidentally spliced a toxin-expressing gene into. the food gets tested thoroughly before it goes on market.
personally i’m more wary of the environmental & economic effects of GM foods. what happens if transgenic lines escape into the wild, for example? what are the implications of being able to PATENT a gene? there are a lot of issues beyond ‘are they ok to eat?’ so it’s hard to just say yay or nay >>
