Why don't people talk more about the death of reasonably intelligent American conservativism? Hanania's "Liberals Read, Conservatives Watch TV" is decent but the disappearance of conservatives from intellectual life must be worthy of study.

It wasn't always this way. The conservative revolution of the 60s/70s had actual brainpower behind it. Knowing why it went away might give some insight for if/when conservative politics might one day be less repulsive to people with IQ>115.

This seems like a very important puzzle, worthy of comparison with other anglosphere countries. I don't think the UK or Canada have seen it hit as hard.

Late January 2026. Liberals are arguing for the maximalist rights of concealed carry gun owners. Conservatives are arguing federal agents should be allowed to waste anyone who has a gun because they're scared.

There are various right-wing-ish online posters I've viewed over the years who seem smarter than the typical right winger and occasionally have some meaningful insight. Most of these seem to have become much, much dumber, more partisan and defensive, and generally more evil now that Trump is in office. They descend into rightoidism.

Are people generally dumber when their side is in office? It's just harder arguing for a constructive policy program than pointing out the other side's blundering. Once you're on the defensive trying to rationalize what Trump gets up to, it's very hard to sound as clever.

Perhaps more importantly, people tend to reveal the nasty moral instincts causing them to accept the bad things he does, making the effect particularly strong for American conservatives.

If a repeat violent offender under a court order not to possess a knife goes and stabs someone while filming it himself and posts the video to social media, and the victim is crippled for life, I somehow feel like a seven year maximum sentence with likely parole before then is not quite sufficient.

But then I'm not the Canadian justice system, am I?

Seems like you could just instantly fix urban squalor while preserving liberties for functional adults by banning outdoor use of drugs and actually enforcing it. What happens in your house is your business alone, and anyone who can't follow the rule probably needs to go through jail/rehab anyways. Right?

Pride event at a park near my place, was walking through. Gaza flag wavers in attendance. Not a huge surprise considering the left omnicause but it would've been good taste to leave it at home after that muslim terrorist hit the Berlin pride event a few days ago.

But islamo-prideism lives on despite my skepticism. I'm not sure both groups can stay in one coalition forever, though.

"Smarter and more articulate members of a political coalition trying to invent reasons for the stupid things the dumb majority of their coalition do+believe" is reliably entertaining content because you get big brains making even bigger stretches, debasing themselves utterly in the process.
