Although the Pakistani women today are setting foot in all walks of life but still, the narrow-mindedness of our society in general haunts us. I’m stuck in a trance after watching the Oscar winning documentary by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy - A Girl in the River:the price of forgiveness #SOCFilms.
Honestly, that documentary shook me up, it gave me much to think about. It’s amazing how the documentary doesn’t leave you with a conclusion but forces you to judge in your own mental capacity and further ponder upon the social elements savaging a woman’s life in the name of honour. What kind of an honour does a father feel after attempting to murder, or rather successfully his own kin? The answer to that question also lies within, it is us, as a society, we force such criminals to believe that their way of protecting their honour is rightful - when it clearly isn’t, it’s immoral and un-islamic. We praise such men and their heinous crime gives them more pride than ever. Is this it? Is this who we really are, if we are then we aught to be ashamed.
