Saw this post and I want to ask what's your thought on this is it 100% correct.
It's a very astute reading.
If arguing with someone who is all for punishment, especially on tumblr just hit them with 'That's Very Conservative of you' or 'That's very Evangelical of you'. You might cause a stroke. 🤣
But seriously though, the idea of harsh punishments and inherently evil people as being 'different' are all deeply rooted in the structures that gave us racism, sexism, and various other '-isms' we're trying to fight against.
When you say 'person X' is just 'like that' and needs to be punished because it is morally right(TM), the JK Rowlings of the world are just nodding along and saying 'Trans people too'.
The healthy solution is:
Learn how things got to this point->Develop context->Create plan of action to change behavior.
Might punishment be a part of that? Yes. Punishment serves many uses only one of which is 'fixing the bad behavior'.
Punishment can't be the only or the final part of it though.
