Marijuana Shows Make Good Television
It’s just a fact sometimes stoney TV makes good TV. Marijuana shows are on the rise and networks are cashing in on their green rush. Reality TV and docudramas are in abundance, and don’t get me wrong I love documentaries, but in my opinion, nothing beats a good comedy.
In an effort to honor a couple of our favorite marijuana shows on TV here is our list of must watch TV.
Marijuana Shows Worth Your Time
Weeds
The Showtime series Weeds was ahead of its time. Airing from 2005 to 2012 starring Mary-Louise Parker and Kevin Nealon, Weeds was chronicled a newly widowed wife trying to make ends meet by getting into the Cannabis business.
Parker’s character Nancy Botwin learns her way through the trials and tribulations of black market Cannabis. With trips to Tijuana and handling her territory in Southern California, she learns the business the hard way in a sense.
Definitely, a must watch binge and bong show worth your time. Learn more about Weeds and how to watch the series.
Disjointed
A newcomer to our list is Disjointed. As an original Netflix production. Disjointed has a little more leeway than shows of the past (which I love.)
The star of the show is Ruth, played by Kathy Bates, a Cannabis activist and dispensary owner. In here efforts to educate, medicate and recreate hilarity ensues. Although in its first full season, Disjointed is soon to be classic Marijuana TV.
Surprising enough one of my favorite characters is the straight-laced Tai Kwon Do instrctor, Tai Kwon Doug. His encounters with the “Druggies” and “Stoners” and trying to live the straight life.
This is not groundbreaking television, and the characters are shallow, but I could care less since I laugh my ass off every time I binge watch the show. (Yes, I have seen series one more than twice.)

That 70’s Show
Where do we start about this one? Technically this is not a stoner or marijuana-based TV shoe, but it is. Growing up in the 80’s this comedy is based on my aunt’s and uncle’s generation that I was too young to be in the know.
Trials and tribulations of relationships, growing up, school and friendships are at the forefront of That 70’s Show. Where the stoniness comes in was typically when the crew was hanging out in the smoke-filled basement. The smoke circle was chronicled with brilliant (or not-so) observations, terrible (hilarious) jokes about one another and far out statements.
Admittedly, the show jumped the shark once Topher Grace’s character moved on to “college.” But even with that, this show is not to miss and will be a hit after your next session.

Next up for California’s famed wine country is Craft Cannabis and Marijuana tourism.
Craft Cannabis and Tourism
Craft cannabis brand Flow Kana is planning to build a marijuana processing and manufacturing plant in Mendocino County.
Using the winery model that hosts tours and tastings, the Flow Cannabis Institute plans on focusing on complete visitor experience. Eventually, visitors will tour the facilities where small farmers grow, process, and package marijuana for distribution.
Founded as a delivery service in 2014 in San Francisco, Flow Kana is the first of its kind in the craft cannabis tourism game. The company only sources from farms that grow outdoors without pesticides.
The Flow Cannabis Institute enables small and independent farmers to scale and compete with Big Marijuana brands.
This Willy Wonkaesque Factory for cannabis comes with one caveat: Flow Kana has no plans to grow or sell cannabis on the property. Hopefully, in the future FK plans on opening a tasting room open to adults over the age of 21. (Look like there is another Willie in the game…)
It looks like things in California is about to get very interesting.

My Recreational Marijuana Dispensary Visit
Welp, I made my first Marijuana Dispensary visit since recreational marijuana use became legal in California. It was interesting on many levels and a little surprising.
When I showed up at my favorite Marijuana Dispensary in San Diego urbn leaf, it was different than any other visit. As reported by urbn leaf’s social media team that day there were no lines outside waiting to queue up to purchase goods. I thought to myself, “Lines? Huh?” I have never experienced a line at any dispensary. There have been comfortable waits in the lobby, but I never experienced any actual lines.
With the information that there were no lines, I decided to take a trip. (Plus I was getting low on the 5mg gummy bear edibles that I use as a sleep aid.) When I arrived at the spot there actually was a small line. What I did not know to ask is if the line was only for recreational use or for medicinal. Indeed the line was for recreational sales, and medical marijuana patients skipped the line. (Hint…hint: If that is not a reason to see a physician to get an MMJ card I do not know what is…)
Once to the front and registering with an overwhelmed frustrated employee, I was set to proceed.
Inside The Marijuana Dispensary
Once I entered the actual shop, there was another line waiting for a budtender to assist me. No big deal — this moves fast with a well-staffed dispensary. Once someone was free, it was business as usual and back to the typical experience.
I know all this will change and smooth out over time. There are benefits to having a Medical Marijuana card, but I am 100% in favor of recreational usage. It was great to see people of all ages, sex, and color legally purchase marijuana.
The wait, yes, was inconvenient. Overall it was no big deal, and I would rather have everyone reap the benefits of medical cannabis vs. a small segment of self-identifying people.

New California Edibles Regulations
Major changes to California edibles production and sales are around the corner. Packaging and potency are at the forefront of the new California edible regulations. No longer are shapes of fruit, animals, or humans permitted to be sold in California. Edibles are now to be generic in shape.
When the adult-use market launches on January 1st in California, cannabis edibles may not be sold in more than 100 milligrams of THC per package. Also, edibles are divided into clearly identifiable servings of no more than 10 milligrams each.
California Edibles – The Times Are A Changing…
There are pros and cons to these new regulations. Now more than ever, someone eating an edible will know exactly how much THC they are ingesting. Remember having to buy a 500 mg Cannabis cookie and rationing it out to size? Those days are gone! I am for portioning edibles in a logical manner. Now we can enjoy the taste of one whole candy bar, donut or cookie without being sent off to space. (Been there, done that.)
What To Do After You’ve Consumed Too Much THC
What we are not in favor of is the strict 100 mg per package. There needs to be a way to keep the THC portions under control, but not limit the number of pieces in one package. Logically, all packaged soft chew edibles in California will now be 10 pieces of 10 mg THC equally 100 milligrams in total.
InstaTree USA and our dispensary friends are convinced more rules and regulations are coming down the line. There is no way the California Edibles clampdown is over. As recreational cannabis use and adult-only shops increase, the lawmakers will have more of a say in how the marijuana prohibition is reduced. We are in for some interesting times…

The House of Cards: Marijuana Legalization and The Feds
As we prepare for recreational Marijuana Legalization in California and other states, I started to wonder if this is all one big House of Cards that can tumble down at any time.
On a state by state basis states have voted to approve various marijuana legalization laws. Some states legalized Cannabis for medical use only and some for both medical and recreation, however in the eyes of the Federal Government it is still an illegal controlled substance. This is where the confusion starts…
Marijuana Legalization and The Feds
Federal law prohibits the use, sale, and growing of marijuana. Even though cannabis state laws vary, Federal law is cut and dry. What does this mean for the people who invest in Cannabis businesses and the near 200,000 people legally employed in the marijuana industry?
Since at any time the Feds can raid, cease and shut down Cannabis Dispensary operations at any time this is still a volatile industry. This situation is fucked up beyond belief — so what now?
The Marijuana Legalization Conflict
The federal law will always Trump (<— asshole) state laws. Even if marijuana use, growing, or selling is legal in your state, you can still face federal charges. Serious federal charges.
Although we realize the Feds worry about on bigger fish than the medical marijuana user and grower this is still real.
Who knows how the current administration will deal marijuana policies (or anything else.) Attorney General Jeff Sessions has favored strict enforcement of the federal laws. So, with that I ask…is this a House of Cards or something being built to last?
