Not Enough Yet

In the article “They Do not want to Cruise Your Type: Gay Men of color and the racial politics of Exclusion” by Han, the author expressed how homosexual men of color experienced oppression and discrimination as they were the minority group, compared to whites. This case can also be portrayed in the film “Paris is Burning” because 99% of the people shown in the film were black gays showing their sexuality with no restrains. In other words, instead of going to places they would get discriminated, they would hold special events for their own “kind”. Moreover, this articles shows how whites would also be more accepted rather than Hispanics and blacks.

In the article “Homosexual and heterosexual: Questioning the terms” by Katz, it talked about how sexual preferences does not specifically determine the definition of a person. Many people believe of homosexuals to be disgusting or a plague to society, but that does not differ from heterosexuals that can be even worse. A sexual behavior does not define nor influence a person’s way of been.

Liberty Against Oppression

In the article “Be All that You Can Be”, Bornstein expresses how people do not have to be afraid of expressing their differences or uncertainties about them selves. He wants people to not be afraid of who they are and to embrace their “differences” by freeing them selves from the social individuality people live on. He transmits the message of not being ashamed of your true identity whether it is transsexual/transgender or from what people call “right”. 

 In response to the article “Transgendering: Blurring the Boundaries of Gender”, McKenna and Kesser talk about how the meaning of transgender has changed through the years. They shared their personal experiences to show a better accurate statement from where they got their knowledge. I was shocked how they would express their “uniqueness” as their weapon to fight against society’s critics and survive the struggles/obstacles we also present to them. That’s what makes them keep moving forward.

 The article “Transgender Liberation” by Feinberg talks about the lifestyle transgender people has lived on. It’s openly known that they have received a unwelcome invitation towards society as they are the “change”. Society does not want to change the way they have been operating over centuries. This article also explains the significance of colors in babies’ clothes as it determined the sex of the baby and their “evidence” of portraying their gender. Now that society has evolved, it is not as misinterpreted as before but most people are still criticized/punished/oppressed for not following the “rules” of their own gender.

Is "Essentialism" essential for women?

In the article “Lexicon of the Debates” by Kolmar and Bartkowski, many terms are discussed that leaves different impressions of the feminist theory. The article mainly talks of the women’s roles, their understanding and the way they should be treated. In the other hand, this theory serves as an excuse for oppression on how women have to behave a certain way. “Essentialism” was the term that caught my attention because it explains the beliefs that people are born with some characteristics that cannot be changed over time or permanently. It basically says that women should be the way society has stereotyped them to be and not change due to the new generations.
