Ritual
A light snack after casually reading under the sun. Filled with the contented laziness that sunny warmth on a day without responsibility brings. Left feeling that I need a similarily languid snack at one of my fave spots. Seated amongst my quiet co-patrons, enjoying light and colorful electro at Ritual on Denman.
Espresso and tonic.
Told by my waiter that this drink has it’s origins down under. Anything involving coffee and the Aussies is instantly worthy of intrigue in my books. The tonic looks particularly fun to pour in. Was a little jealous that my waiter took the reigns on that one. The crema expands slow and thick, increasing by about ten times in volume. Concocted with Fever Tree tonic water and espresso from Pallet Coffee Roasters. Very flavorful tonic on it’s own; sharp almost citrus fruitiness and that hefty quinine bitterness. Personally I like a duller sweetness with espresso, not fruity. The latter makes for a strange sour concoction that I wasn’t crazy about. The billowy coffee foam however, is potent and refreshing. Like most wonderful things in life though, it is fleeting and must be slurped with due haste. Overall, not my fave drink. I would love to try this again with a more chill tonic. Fever Tree has too many flavours going on.
Next up: Crispy fried halloumi with cashews and honey.
Sweet jesus, fucking yum.
A warm floral greeting of honey and rosewater. Crunchy fried coating encapsulating the savoury intensity of salty halloumi. The rose-kissed honey takes simple (but always delicious) fried cheese into sensory sublimity. Savoury and floral, rounded but still poignant, creamy but without cloy. My brain wants pistachios for extra crunch and flavour where I feel that by comparison, cashews falter. Perhaps that’s just my baklava preoccupation. Seriously fucking good food though, order this!
And such a cute little dish! 😩 Unhhhhhh
Thanks Ritual, you’re a gem.
