17-Gyō [open]
Kira Izuru stared vacantly out the classroom window into the courtyard. He took one hand out of his pocket to push up the cosmetic glasses he wore and let out a sigh. Looking down at his hand, he flexed his fingers. The new gigai that Urahara Kisuke supplied were much better than the older models. It hardly felt like he was in a faux body at all. He reached back into his pocket and pulled out the odd Pez dispenser-like object with a cat face on the top. Unfortunately, the mission had come up too short notice to get one of his own, so Izuru had to borrow Abarai Renji’s gikon. The gikon was supposed to be a pill that he would take to allow himself to leave the gigai behind and fight in spirit form if need be. Izuru grimaced, remembering the stories he had heard about wacky gikon acting ridiculous in the faux bodies left behind. He hoped he didn’t have to use it. The last thing he needed was his cover being blown by his students being attacked by a “nyah”-ing version of himself.
Izuru redirected his thoughts toward the mission at hand. Indeed, he had felt an incredibly large gathering of spiritual power in the school. Finding out why these individuals were all being gathered here was his primary objective. As far as he could tell, the school operated as a typical, modern school should. While a school-wide policy against fighting among students did not seem to be in force, there wasn’t anything obviously strange about this place. Still, Izuru’s instincts told him something odd was going on here. Until he could find something more concrete his job was just to observe. And teach. Izuru stepped back over to his desk, picked up his notebook, and scribbled out an ending to a haiku he came up with while walking over to the room earlier in the morning. Satisfied, he set the notebook back down just as the classroom door slid open. The first class of the day was just beginning as students began to wander into the room. Izuru collected himself and prepared the first lecture once the class was seated.
“So how many of you know how to write Haiku?”
