A couple of commissions for @soffie101 that I did a couple months ago! Thought I should post them here!
I love this song so much, but it’s been really hard finding a good duet for this song for some reason. I guess that’s the beauty of having both Vocaloid and UTAU: when you run out of options for one program, you can just cross over between them. Anyway, this song had been on my list for a long time, but due to issues finding a good duet, I didn’t end up doing it for many months. This duet is highly experimental, but I think it worked out really well. Though this particular bank for Elie is suited for higher songs, I do think that the lower range is quite warm and nice, but not muddy or awkward like some higher female banks end up sounding as they get lower. Thus, I found that she suited Miku’s part better. Miki was a fairly obvious choice for Rin’s part since her voice seems to share a similar kind of timbre to Rin’s. Tuning Miki’s part was actually the most fun aspect of the whole thing. Though having that Electronica-Tune plugin from Fukase’s package would’ve helped the process, I think I did a pretty good job creating similar effects with Pitch Snap mode and creative use of really short notes. Enjoy!

The original song was by すんzりヴぇrP. This is the only song from this producer that I’m familiar with, but I’m sure that if you liked this one, you’ll like other ones that they’ve made. Buy their commercially available songs to support their work!

Ever since I did 十面相, I’ve been on some kind of internal mission to find sweet-sounding voices. So far, it hasn’t returned anything, but I’m hoping that maybe I’ll run into one while randomly searching. Anyway, this is also one of the songs that I listened to a lot in the beginning of my drop into the Vocaloid fandom. I had already heard a fair bit about Luka from Just Be Friends and other popular songs that she’s been featured in, and I’d just heard Gumi for the first time in 人生リセットボタン maybe a week before I heard this song. Their voices blended quite well together, and honestly, it’s a lot harder to find UTAU that blend together. You kind of have to throw different combinations up into the air and hope that one of them takes off. Anyway, I’ve really been trying to even out the balance of sweet and dark songs that I’ve covered on the blog, but it’ll be a long time before that gets restored. Anyway, enjoy the cover!

This is another group work I really like. It’s not as light as Alice in Musicland, but it’s actually very good writing music. When I first saw the original video, I actually had nightmares of being burned at a stake for a couple days. I first saw the video before I started studying Japanese, so it felt even scarier that I couldn’t understand anything that was being said. After my second year of studying Japanese, I decided to take another look at the song with increased understanding of the language, and it evoked a very different emotional response. After that was when I really started to enjoy the song. I made a cover of it with UTAU while I still had a Mac laptop, but I didn’t quite like it that much so I never released it. Now that I’ve done more covers, I think this one’s actually pretty good. Tei has been my go-to stand-in for Luka for quite a while, and I think she really shines in this song. Apart from Luka and Rin’s parts, I wasn’t sure who to use for every other part. I actually switched Hachi and Ritsu between the roles of Len and Miku multiple times before deciding that Ritsu was better as Miku and Hachi was better as Len. As for Gakupo, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to try to use Samura Tomi again, since her lower register served her well in Alice in Musicland, or use a male voicebank from the limited selection I had. I think what I ended up with is a pretty solid cover, and I hope you enjoy it!
