I’ve been seeing a lot of posts going around again about how tumblr is the best site everyone stay away and then inevitably there’s a comment about how tumblr is a hell-site and we have damned ourselves voluntarily.

Newsflash: Both of these things are true

On the one hand literally everything about tumblr makes me want to scream from the rabidity of certain fandoms, just the most insane users, the staff Do Not Care About Your Complaints, the harassment and bullying, compassion fatigue from the endless guilt-trippy posts (like goddamn get off your moral high-horse this world sucks and so do you), etc. etc.

But I don’t feel pressured to produce content that includes allowing a bunch of strangers/acquaintances access to my private life. Bo Burnham really said we should try to learn to live like we’re not performing for an audience and tumblr is the closest I can get to that while still connecting with people!! Tumblr is the only social media I can strike a good balance on between being mentally withdrawn but still get good doses of social interactions. I also get to vent about my professional life and I have no repercussions about it whatsoever.

If I talk about how ACAB on my Facebook it’s going to affect me negatively because my coworkers will see it and I will get reprimanded. I post about ACAB here and I’m surrounded by people who feel the same!!

Anyway tl;dr tumblr is a shitty website but it’s shitty in ways I can work around. Other social media websites are shitty because they require a certain level of performance I do not care for.
