The fight had not gone well. Not one, but two Purple Archespores had taken up residence in a nearby field, and Vesemir had been the oh so lucky Witcher who had snagged the contract. He’d managed to get one down without much injury, but the second one was causing some trouble. At the rate things were going, it was going to hardly be worth the bag of coins he was to receive for the job.
It struck his leg, knocking him to the ground and even rolling away hadn’t protected him entirely from the acid that splashed towards his face. He rolled once more out of caution and got up on one knee, wiping his sleeve across his face to attempt to keep it from his eyes. His vision hazed lightly and his cheek was stinging and he knew he was out of luck and time with this fight. Maybe he should have taken his companion up on the offer of joining to help. The poison was hitting him harder now.
Just before his vision hazed out entirely, he caught sight of another figure dashing forwards. He had just enough time to hope it was who he thought it was before toppling over into darkness.

A soft voice reading something that sounded like poetry pulled Vesemir from his stint in unconsciousness, and he slowly began to take in his surroundings. He was in a soft bed, and that was very nice, but there was something tied around his head, covering his eyes. He slowly reached up to try and touch or remove whatever was impeding his vision.
“But those same tongues, that give thee so thine own,
In other accents do this praise confound…
No, Vesemir do not touch that.”
The soft voice from earlier ceased and a firm hand closed over his before he could tug down the blindfold.
“You were injured gravely and while you heal, we must protect your eyes. You will keep that cloth on. No arguments.”
“Regis?”
“Who else would sit at your bedside reading you poetry and ensuring you don’t meet an early grave?”
Vesemir chuckled and twisted the hand in his grip so that he could entwine their fingers. “I did wonder who had so clearly come running to my rescue. Of course it was you.”
Regis leaned down and set a gentle kiss to the corner of his mouth. Vesemir smiled and tried to chase a better kiss. Regis simply sat back up and chuckled while tutting. “Soon, my dearest. Like I was saying. Gravely injured. Rest and recover for now, and I will give you what you desire once your sight has returned and wounds to your face have properly closed.”
Vesemir hummed. “I don’t know… I kind of like this blindfold.”
The laugh this caused to burst forth from his lover was deep and warm and went a long ways to helping Vesemir calm and settle more comfortably into his bedding. A laugh like that warmed both parties. His hand came to brush softly against his unharmed cheek.
“I’m sure you do. Well. We shall keep that in mind for later then. Be a good witcher now and relax.”
Vesemir nodded, shifted around slightly in the bed, and cleared his throat. Regis kept quiet, a soft grin on his face the other could not see, waiting for him to ask what he wanted.
“...Would you keep reading to me?”
“Of course, my love…” Regis agreed, and Vesemir could hear the bright smile in his voice. His hand retreated and the sound of rustling pages came as he hunted for his previous place.
“By seeing farther than the eye hath shown.
They look into the beauty of thy mind,
And that in guess they measure by thy deeds…”
With his eyes closed behind the cloth, and the warm voice of his dearest person in his ears, Vesemir drifted off into the most restful sleep he’d had in weeks.
