Sonar x GN!Reader
the next morning after he got cut. fluff and a pinch of angst?
Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!
Sonar's early alarm is ringing. He should have turned it off already by the second squeak—reflex and instinct—but it continues to ring. Looks like it's one of those days.
"Victor," you murmur, voice laced heavy with sleep, "wake up."
Squeak! Squeak!
His embrace around you tightens. Oh. You didn't even realize he's holding you. Rolling yourself softly, your hand clumsily searches for the top of his head.
"C'mon," you exhale, your eyes still closed as you rest on his chest. "Wake up. Victor. Victor." You pat between his ears lazily. "Vic. Sonar."
Squeak! Squeak!
You groan from sheer annoyance. That alarm's so insistent and loud. "Duuuude. You have work."
He's still not responding—now you're just growing worried. You sit up, wiggling out of his arms, but you don't get far.
Opening your eyes is the last thing you do, and when you do, you see Sonar's half-lidded white eyes. Just from that sight, you wake up entirely, cupping his fluffy cheek with concern. He relaxes at your touch.
"What's wrong?" you ask, quickly clearing your throat after.
Squeak! Squeak! The alarm is still blaring in the background. For how long does that go, man?
Sonar sighs. "I got cut."
Your stomach drops, your brows furrow. "What?"
Squeak!
"Yeaaaahh," he drawls, moving away from your hand, "forgot to change my alarm clock, I guess."
You blink. He grabs a pillow and covers his face with it. There's a whole lot of confusion streaming in your mind right now—why didn't he tell you? But then you remembered, by the time you came home yesterday, he was already asleep. No wonder he looked so restless.
"Oh, sweetheart," you say, hovering your hand on the pillow over his head. "Talk to me."
Squeak! Squeak!
He doesn't reply for a good second.
Sque—!
You shut that darn alarm off.
"Sonar," you try again.
"Sorry," he says, muffled.
You gently lift the pillow up. "What happened?"
"Bottom of the leaderboard." For someone who doesn't have irises, he's surprisingly easy to read. He wouldn't be looking at you right now. "Pretty stupid stuff."
Bottom of the—??? You freeze, making sense of his words. A company that reforms villains, cutting hires when they're at the bottom? You get the sentiment, you really do, but what the fuck??
"Victor," you call. One of his ear twitches. "I love you."
He hums, a rather defeated one, but you feel a hand sneaking over your waist.
"And I'm actually so fucking angry right now," you grunt, pinching between your eyebrows. "Okay, what do we do about this? Want me to talk to them? No, hang on, I'm getting ahead of myself—"
You stare at his eyes. He blinks awfully slow, unusually quiet, and oddly out of it.
"You better not be thinking of stupid shit," you accuse swiftly, but you make sure to soften your voice, "you were—are on your way to becoming a hero."
He snorts. "Can neither confirm or deny."
You roll your eyes before deciding to attack him with kisses of reassurance, offering him sweet nothings and everythings. Hopefully this helps him not to think of having revenge.
Though you do need a lot more information on SDN cutting this bat.
— he would've been ranting if not for the fact he just woke up lol he'd do it over breakfast
