“ i didn’t have it in myself to go with grace ” - adora
the corner’s of catra’s lips twist into a sneer as she glares at the blonde. “of course you fucking didn’t,” she snaps, hands balling into fists at her side. “why would you? why would anyone else matter to you enough to bother stopping for one moment to think about them? why would you think of anyone except for yourself?” @adoraweaver
candice is kind of a really shitty friend at first. a few years ago if you had asked candice very specific things about anita’s interests she wouldn’t be able to answer you. she probably still can’t, not in depth at least, but she can tell you some things now.
candice likes to barge in on people’s homes unannounced because she doesn’t understand the concept that not everyone’s free time should be wasted on her whenever she feels like it. she goes to anita and roger’s house once after they get married, to give anita her job back, and she never intends to set foot on their property again. she hates their fucking dogs and they definitely aren’t very fond of her. candice doesn’t understand why anita couldn’t just get a goldfish or something.
hated the fact that anita’s work was slacking when her relationship with roger started. she was really agitated that anita couldn’t seem to balance her work life and her personal life better. not just as an employer, but as someone who believed in anita and her talents. firing her was both a moment of extreme rage, (because if anita couldn’t fully handle working with a boyfriend, working while married would be a new hell for their relationship) but also something she did because she was dissapointed. to candice it felt like anita was choosing a man over her goals.
it never occurs to candice that their problems could have been solved if she was just a little understanding and stopped demanding people to give their entire lives to her company. and when employees complain and mutter about wanting a life outside of haus davil, she never listens. just fires them or cuts their hours. candice has given her life to her company and if you want to be a part of her success, then you should to. she wouldn’t ever listen to any complaints unless they came from anita. she can’t promise she would change her ways, but she would at least try her best to hear her out.
candice has a lot of superficial friendships, and often thinks she can only be honest with gaston and anita. anita is never judgmental when candice has those very rare moments of vulnerability around her, and she knows the other girl would never tell a soul about it. because if she did candice would literally murder her. but she also just trusts anita.
looking back at it, she could have handled the wedding better. she didn’t have to show up in white or give them a lazy thoughtless check as a wedding gift. she won’t ever admit fault for it though, fuck the both of them.
the few months where anita wasn’t at the company, candice was on edge all the time. her first day back employees rushed to tell anita how much they missed her and how candice was so much angrier than usual without her here. candice shoo’d them away from anita, reminding everyone that she doesn’t do water cooler whispers. she never acknowledged the things she overheard them telling anita, but she did give her friend one genuine smile to convey that it was kind of true, she did miss her.
would never say it but candice values anita’s opinion. if she’s stuck on a design or isn’t really sure if she agrees with something going on in a pre-launch meeting, she asks anita for her opinions. anita’s attention to detail is something she admires, and is honestly waiting for her to work up the courage to ask candice to consider some of her designs for the next line. she’s not really sure if anita’s brand necessarily fits with candice’s, but she’s willing to collaborate. maybe they can do a line for boring every day women. it could be fun.
if anyone else had pissed candice off the way anita had she would have ruined them and made them un-hirable in the fashion world. the fact that she didn’t is proof enough that she kind of cares in her own little way.
one day in the very far off future, after a lot of therapy and a lot of reflecting on her life she will consider apologizing to anita for being the absolute worst.
sometimes buys anita little trinkets that she thinks she’ll like, or like little things for her house that she thinks would look nice.
maximus was one of the first people kanga dated after the whole one night stand left me pregnant situation. he’s also the last person that she’s dated.
every time she hears an officer is in the building for a case, she always secretly hopes it’s him - even though she usually doesn’t do more than just smile and wave at him whenever he’s there, it’s still always nice to see him.
she didn’t necessarily want to end things with him. but they were both so busy with work and kanga was stressed about missing out on joey’s last year of high school that it was just easier. she needed to focus all her extra time on her daughter. she felt guilty for letting herself get distracted.
though she won’t admit it - she misses him a lot. but she feels like she ruined her chance at ever being with him again. which is fine. she’s accepted she’ll likely be alone forever, but it was nice. being with him.
kanga introduced him to joey a few times, he was invited to family dinners, and it really had her thinking this could be something real. but she never voiced those thoughts, knowing they would likely be too much and scare him away.
a part of why she hasn’t dated anyone else is because she feels like she doesn’t have the time for it - or at least that’s what she tells joey whenever she asks about her love life - but it’s also because she doubts she’d be able to find someone that was as good to her as max was. and with her still lingering feelings, she doesn’t think it’s fair to try dating someone else.
Catra: Why did you have to leave? Why couldn’t everything just stay the same like it always was? Back when things were easy and made sense.Catra: I miss you. And I hate you for that. Catra: It’s your fault that I’m like this you know. You and your stupid smile and your stupid laugh.Catra: I hate you. And I think I love you.
Blossom: i just keep messing up and i don’t know what to do. i have no control over anything and i just don’t want you to see me like this. to see im a failure. and a hypocrite. and i can’t even be a good sister to you while i am figuring myself out.Blossom: im failing you.
