ok so i don't know ANYTHING about kingdom hearts but may i ask--so like, some characters have a bunch of names, right, like sora and roxas? is one name SUPPOSED to be the other name shuffled around with an x in the middle?

Yes, Roxas’ name being an anagram of Sora’s is 100% intentional. 

So the deal with them is: Roxas is basically Sora? So at the end of KH1 Sora straight up dies. (He loses his heart - which is something entirely different from the actual organ in the game lore lmao) The empty body that Sora left behind kinda just... keeps on going. He’s recruited into an Organization made up of other weird heartless zombie people. 

Part of the recruitment process is that their names are changed to further separate them from their former selves. 

So, Sora -> Roxas

Frank looked up at Ray, the cigarette hanging from his fingers like he was some cool guy in a movie. For a moment he imagined it, the way the frame would catch on his fingers for a second, the tattoos inked on the stretches of skin between his knuckles, the trail of smoke just out of focus enough to be artsy. He shook his head; he didn't smoke to be cool, nor was he in a movie. Besides, the fucking hat Gerard had put on his head five minutes before, the hat that Frank was still wearing, was nowhere near cool.

"Of course. Why wouldn't I?"

"Because, dude, it's literally a wolf hat, like for a kid." The incredulity in Ray's voice was obvious, and Frank just squinted at him.

"Yeah, and it fits me."

"You look ridiculous."

"You look ridiculous." Frank dropped his cigarette to the ground and squished it out with the toe of his shoe. He didn't wait for Ray to move out of the doorway before pushing his way past him back into to the venue. "Just for that, I'm wearing the hat through the whole fucking show."
