Mario Kart 8 Review
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY0PLqKd1K8
Our Mario Kart 8 review was our really big summer project and our one year anniversary video. So this was kind of a big deal for us. Time to record the voice over was very limited so we had to make every second count. Some additional touch up work was done by Tony Balun, Michelle and Robinson and that made the video look and sound better. Tony in particular was monumental in getting this to sound as good as it did.
I felt like after Symphony this was the next big climax in terms of how our videos evolved. Things got a bit more loose and whacker while still being informative. I love the comparisons to the past Mario kart games that we did.
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle Review
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rK9_SVLFAYI
Sam reviews the first Sonic game he ever played and of course, I throw my 2 cents.I felt like Sam really took charge on this one. This one has more of that brotherly banter we had always wanted this channel to have. Some of the mike quality isn’t the best, but I felt our duo dynamic was getting better here.
This one took about 6 months to make. It was in production before we finished the Kirby and Chocolate man videos. So if you want to compare our chemistry between those 3... do so.
My only real complaints about this one are that the music segments went on too long and the recording quality wasn’t very good in a few parts. We never made that mistake again.
Wii U GBA Virtual Console/Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Il4JnkMuZLo
Our most viewed video is also our most polarizing one. Here we talk about Nintendo adding the GBA games to the Wii U Virtual Console and use it segue into Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Kirby’s first foray into the Metroidvania genre. Me and Sam don’t have the most flattering opinion of the game. Sam hates it more than me. Michelle (who helped us write and with some of the sound editing for the video the video) doesn’t like it at all.
I had fun making it, but we took some heat for it. Looking back at it, I think maybe we could have worded some things better. Some time in the future, I plan on doing a re-review taking some of the constructive feedback we got from the comments into consideration. I can say that I’m still not a fan of the game but my attitude towards it has changed slightly.
Sonic R: Micro-Review
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfLRE71xRFU
Our second video in our Micro-Review format. This time we did a quick peak at Sonic R, the Sonic Racing game for Sega Saturn, specifically the GameCube version from Sonic Gems Collection. I had fun making it, but I don’t think what we had to say was very constructive. Also, beleive it or not but this one was very time consuming to make; we spent more time on this one than we did Chocolate Man.
Grand Theft Auto 5 Review
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myV8UCr_FX0
The one where we reviewed the biggest game of 2013. This was the biggest production we had undertaken at that point. The filesize was ridiculous. Writing it, recording it, editing it was a huge challenge that took about 2 months to complete. I needed outside help to get everything encoded.
I was very hard on Sam while recording the voice over on this one. I tried my best to push him to be as good as possible. Bless him, he pulled through.
My only real regret is that I think a few minutes could have been shaved off of this one. Its a bit too long and doesn’t really end strongly.
Axelay Review
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7D5htt6EEt0
Axelay is an all-time favorite game of my friend Paul. After having some online chats about it, he convinced me it would make a good video. He was gracious enough to help me edit and write this sucker.
This is essentially an academic report on a SNES shooter. It’s a bit more stringent than the videos that came before it. Laura did a few lines. Maybe they’re a bit melodramatic and silly, but I like her reads. I think this one’s alright.
