Warning; mention of Injuries (sort of)
It was last month when Thomas was gaming, as usual, using Roman as his avatar. It’s another game that Joan had recommended, and currently Thomas and Roman were battling the final boss. But something was wrong,
Nothing wrong with the game, Thomas had played it using Joan’s avatar before - although he never reached the final level - but all still familiar. Nothing wrong with his PC, he just upgraded it that day. Even Virgil was impressed.
But something’s definitely wrong right now, he’d realized when the boss rises for the third time after Roman knocked it down. Thomas lose focus of the game and observed, trying to detect something that shouldn’t be there? Was it the villain? Or was it Roman?
Even without Thomas’s command, Roman stood up. He picked up the sword on the ground and dashed to the monster, ignoring the pain in his legs.
The monster’s health point is getting low - but your’s lower!
Just a few more attack and it’ll be dead - and one more stomp from it and you’re dead!
But Roman does not care. He’s used to it. He’s supposed to be used to it. Used to being used so that his master can reach their goals in the game. He’s used to this-
That’s when Thomas noticed what’s wrong. Roman once told him the difference between in-game injury and bot injury so that he won’t feel bad about putting Roman in any dangerous level. And this is not -
Instinctively, Thomas exited the game, bringing Roman out of it.
It happened too fast and Roman fell face first on the main screen. He pushed himself up on his elbows and took in his surrounding. He recollects himself first before standing up, “I almost had it, Thomas!” he shouted to the human outside the screen.
“I- I know. But, you’re injured!”
“Yes, I’m injured, but I will heal, remember?”
“But Roman, that is not an in-game injury!”
Roman went silent, daring to take a look of his appearance. If it’s an in-game injury, all these wounds and injury should disappear the moment Roman exited the game. However, the injury was still there. His legs were still hurting, clearly showing that the damage had also affected his code.
“Roman, what happened? You do know that, if your health point is low, I’d just stay away from the enemy until you recover a bit,” Thomas said carefully, looking at the bot who’s seem frozen on the screen. “And I wasn’t even controlling you… I didn’t give out any command or any order…”
Roman slowly lifted his head, a bit taken aback looking at the concern in Thomas’s eyes.
“Roman?” Thomas called slowly, noticing how Roman was now shaking. “Is everything okay?”
“Th- Thomas?” his lips quiver. “C- Can I talk to you? Alone?” he asked hesitantly, “In a different device, perhaps? I don’t want the others to know…”
Thomas silently nodded, a hand reaching out for his phone. He opened up a certain app, allowing Roman to move to his phone. After Roman has completely transferred himself into the smaller device, Thomas plugged in his earphone and moved away from the PC.
“What’s wrong buddy?” Thomas asked as he walked out of his room.
