After about 7 years into my career, I've finally realized something. I really don't wanna do Java webapps anymore. It's not what I went into programming for. I find it pretty slow and tedious at this point. I only started with it cause it was the first job I could get, it paid well, and I thought I could just ride it out for a while. But it turns out that I'm already so burnt out on it where continuing to 'ride it out' for much longer isn't an option.
Fortunately, the world of software is so huge that there's a lot of other different subfields to go into. I found one that's really interesting to me and now I'm so glad I have an out to this cycle of (go to a new job -> slowly burn out over a couple of years -> try to hide how it's getting harder for me to want to work on anything anymore from my coworkers -> try to find a new job before I presumably eventually get fired for poor performance). It's a relief to finally see a way out of it and there's thankfully a ton of resources for what I want to get into (C/C++ and Python AI/ML coding). That and it's a relief to see how I can be productive even if I get laid off tomorrow.
