Some things about Frankenstein
Soooooooooo, I’m going to tell you about Frankenstein now!
As I said, Frankenstein is my favorite book eveeeeer! It was published in 1818 anonymously, so no one knew that she was actually a woman, and everyone thought it was a work of her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley. She started to write the novel when she was only 18, because of a competition between her, her husband, Lord Byron (who lived near the two lovers because they eloped to Europe), and another woman. The goal was to write a Gothic novel and be published. Of course, Mary won (good job Mary!)
It was inspired by the lost of her dead son, whom she saw rising from the dead in one of her dreams. The story of Frankenstein was also inspired by Dr. James Lind’s experiments (who tried to make dead frogs live again with “animal electricity”).
Frankenstein is one of the first Science-Fiction book, and one of the most famous Gothic novel ever.
