>> LA CHAKANA << - finished mural for this year's Metropolink Festival in Heidelberg, Germany - July 2017 La Chakana y a millenary symbol from the ancient Incas that represents the constellation of the Southern Cross which is to be seen on the southern hemisphere. According to the opinion of the old Andes population, this was the centre of the Universe and was easy to find when they looked up in sky at night. This side four-sided cross and its 3 scales represent a spiritual rising - the spiritual journey of the 3 worlds : the world of the gods - Heaven - Hana Pacha , the world of mortals - Earth - Kay Pacha and the third of the dead - Underworld - Uqha Pacha. It´s geometrical figure is the result of astronomical observations and a symbol for the complexity of the universe. The whole ancient andean cosmos and its concepts are united in this one symbol like for instance the union of dualities : earth and sun , mortals and higher spirits , male and female , sky and earth , sun and moon , north and south or time and space. The interior circle represents the sublime balance of the universe, the emptiness , the unknown , the unimaginable , the truth , the sacred. The word Chakana is based on the quechua word “chakay,” which means “to cross” or “to bridge” La Chakana has become a very personal symbol in my own story by representing and honoring my roots - my first motherland South America and bringing this beautiful symbology to my second base in life (Germany).
