Now I can fly in the Sun!
Last weekend (Feb 8th) I had the chance to attend the inaugural West Central Indiana Fishing Expo in Brazil, Indiana with my father, brother, grandpa, uncle and cousin. We had a whole crew there! I honestly was wondering how the show would turn out with it being in my small hometown of Brazil Indiana. I was genuinely surprised when I walked in. Vendors were lined up neatly encircling all of the local 4-H county fairgrounds exhibit hall. The show was being put on by Red Hot Custom Lures and Solar Bat (see below for links to their respective sites) both located in and around Brazil.
My grandfather is pretty well known in the fishing community with all the tournaments he used to fish in his day. The second we walked in the door multiple people came up to see him and find out how he was doing. The owner of Red Hot Custom Lures, Brian Pearson, goes to church with my grandparents and the owner of Solar Bat, Dr. Gary Nesty, has been a lifelong fishing buddy with him. It was pretty cool to get to see all of these people make him smile all through the day.
After talking with everyone for quite awhile, we sat down with Dr. Nesty and his lovely wife Leesa, to hear some old fishing stories, many of which were hilarious. It was pretty neat hearing all the run-ins he's had with some of the top B.A.S.S. and FLW tour pros. We got on the subject of kayak fishing and I explained to him how I was on the Hobie Fishing Team last year and was going to be this year as well. Seemed like small beans to me when up against people like Kevin VanDam, Mark Dove and Larry Nixon.
As we were readying to leave Dr. Nesty approached me and told me to go pick out a pair of Solar Bats. I was amazed at his generosity. These sunglasses are absolutely top-of-the-line, best money can buy type of sunglasses. I picked out the pair that felt the best on my big head and gave them my information.
Wednesday this week they arrived! I was blown away at how nice they were. I opted for the Captain version with a new tint called Mossback (green). The tint itself makes the glasses amazing. Basically, in a round about way, the tint washes out anything brown (ie. muddy/stained water) and enhances everything green, like grass and more importantly bass. It's crazy how much technology has actually went into making a pair of sunglasses.
The sunglasses came with a pretty sweet travel case, a lanyard and a micro fiber bag to clean and store them in.

Putting them on feels amazing. They wrap perfectly around your face. Instantly you can tell the lenses are polarized if you look at something like your cell phone screen or a TV screen. Looking outdoors everything is sharper and brighter. I seriously cannot wait to try them out on some open water. Granted all lakes and ponds around here are covered in about 12 inches of ice!
I'll keep you updated this year on how these awesome sunglasses perform. Hopefully, it will result in more fish in the livewell at the end of tournaments!
Until next time...tight lines everyone!
