Solar Park Scheme Relaxes Solar Sector
For the growth in the Solar Power generation, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has enrolled a new scheme to develop the solar sector in the country. Government Of India (GOI) has supported financially to establish solar parks with a goal to facilitate the creation of infrastructure necessary for setting up the number of solar across the states in a country. Solar Power projects requisites for infrastructure which supported by GOI and incentives including allocation of lands, transmission, and evacuation of lines, access roads, availability of water and other resources can be made under the project.
The solar park is the concentrated zone of development of solar power generation and implementation projects and also provides well -constructed and developed area with proper infrastructure, facilitation to amenities and by minimizing paperwork for project implementation.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has introduced the development of Solar Power Parks through its central public sector enterprises the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) which will bring out a shift from highly fossil-fuel-dependent economy to more renewable energy oriented one.
The Union MNRE’s decision of setting up solar parks, significantly shows that the country is now focusing on more grid-connected renewable energy. These Solar Parks would costs the ministry a total of Rs. 4,046.25 crore.
The scheme application encourages the construction of Solar parks that can generate power capacity above 500 MW and 1000 MW. MNRE’s goal is to set up at least 50 solar parks each with a capacity of 500 MW. Smaller projects of minimum 100 MW would be considered in North East, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir.
MNRE stated there would be set up of the Solar Parks/ Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects across various states for five years that is from 2014-2015 to 2019 – 2020. After successful, said plans, India will have the solar installed capacity of 25 GW which will be far beyond of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, with a target of 22 GW, aims to achieve by 2022.
Tarun Kapoor, joint secretary, MNRE, said to the Press Trust of India, “Mizoram could add its name to the list of interested states that have already agreed to host a solar park. We already have two solar parks, one each in Gujarat and Rajasthan, as models for the parks to be constructed.”
The new tweaked policy of MNRE stated SECI would act as the Solar Power Park Developer (SPPD) including other renewable energy resources.
