Solar Park Scheme Relaxes Solar Sector

For the growth in the Solar Power generation, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has enrolled a new scheme to develop the solar sector in the country. Government Of India (GOI) has supported financially to establish solar parks with a goal to facilitate the creation of infrastructure necessary for setting up the number of solar across the states in a country. Solar Power projects requisites for infrastructure which supported by GOI and incentives including allocation of lands, transmission, and evacuation of lines, access roads, availability of water and other resources can be made under the project.

The solar park is the concentrated zone of development of solar power generation and implementation projects and also provides well -constructed and developed area with proper infrastructure, facilitation to amenities and by minimizing paperwork for project implementation.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has introduced the development of Solar Power Parks through its central public sector enterprises the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) which will bring out a shift from highly fossil-fuel-dependent economy to more renewable energy oriented one.

The Union MNRE’s decision of setting up solar parks, significantly shows that the country is now focusing on more grid-connected renewable energy. These Solar Parks would costs the ministry a total of Rs. 4,046.25 crore.

The scheme application encourages the construction of Solar parks that can generate power capacity above 500 MW and 1000 MW. MNRE’s goal is to set up at least 50 solar parks each with a capacity of 500 MW. Smaller projects of minimum 100 MW would be considered in North East, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir.

MNRE stated there would be set up of the Solar Parks/ Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects across various states for five years that is from 2014-2015 to 2019 – 2020. After successful, said plans, India will have the solar installed capacity of 25 GW which will be far beyond of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, with a target of 22 GW, aims to achieve by 2022.

Tarun Kapoor, joint secretary, MNRE, said to the Press Trust of India, “Mizoram could add its name to the list of interested states that have already agreed to host a solar park. We already have two solar parks, one each in Gujarat and Rajasthan, as models for the parks to be constructed.”

The new tweaked policy of MNRE stated SECI would act as the Solar Power Park Developer (SPPD) including other renewable energy resources. Every new solar power project will enable the state for procurement of significant investment from project developers in Solar Power sector, to meet its Solar Purchase Obligation (SPO) requisites and provide employment opportunities for the local population.for more detail visit Bridge to India

Water Risks On Solar Management

India is showing the fastest growing interest in the solar energy sector. Even though India has been an off the grid in solar growth over the two decades India has relinquished parity with the management of water risk along with growing solar sector. India developed being environmentally responsible but on the hand it was loosing one valuable resource — Water risk on Solar Management.

On today’s date, India’s solar installed capacity reached 28.18 GW which was earlier 25 GW and 1 GW in 2012 and is expected to grow by over 10 GW every year. With fastest growing in solar around the country that leads to heavily exposed to water risk.

According to our (BridgetoINdia) new consultancy report, around 94 per cent of installed capacity as deployed in water-stressed areas like Rajasthan and Gujarat. Water for cleaning project comes from bore-wells and rivers, etc. Water sourcing is directly impacting water costs for solar project economy. However, water cost has doubled in many parts of the country over the last three years with estimation cleaning water costs around Rs. 42,000 to 105000/MW per year. Water-stressed areas like Gujarat Rajasthan observed with highest cleaning costs. This is because the majority of the water resources for cleaning solar projects comes from bore-wells in the ground. Groundwater is preferred as it is the free available source and operationally appropriate.Karnataka recently increased water tariffs for industrial purposes by 100 times.

Growing interest and attention in solar projects exposes growing water risk which sets deadline for project economy and other substantial environmental degradation.
