Orchid: What's your oc's biggest fear? Elias has two big, main fears. The first i've talked about before, with them being terrified of losing their freedom and being trapped again! The second, however, I haven't mentioned much! The Socialite is incredibly scared of nobody liking them. They want to be loved and adored, and the thought of everyone hating them, resenting them? Horrific to them!!! Pennitha is afraid of never finding any love ever again. Of being lost, consumed, and nothing but a hollow shell of who she was. Forgotten as a ghost. Pheobe is terrified that the other Varchaasi were right, and that they are doomed to never walk in Mihir's Light, cast aside forever. Tulip: If you could say/do one thing to your OC, what would you say/do? I would wrap Elias in blankets and tell them that they are loved, and that they can finally live their life, and live it for themself. They'll do things they may regret, but that doesn't mean they've ruined their newest chance. I would give Pennitha a hug, and tell her it's not worth it to sacrifice herself to bring others back. She can live her life with their memory beside them, and it won't be a betrayal. She's allowed to feel happiness again. I want to tell Pheobe that he can engage with his beliefs in a way that it won't hurt him, and help him deconstruct what happened to him. I want to explain that if he chooses, he can still love his faith without overwriting what about it harmed him. his worth is not based entirely in what others say his god should be like.

i'm pretty sure the top two are amanitas, probably warted amanitas to be specific? I can't seem to figure out the bottom one though sorry

The last one is the same species as the others, but farther along in it’s development.  They’re all from the same cluster and all get huge/flat like that if dad doesn’t run over them with the lawnmower.

My parents live in northern CO, and they grow in a big ring around an old tree stump, and show up from late may through September, as long as the weather stays hot.

a dark place for somewhere beautiful: it can describe both Alexandria’s backstory on the surface, and her eventual future in sunless skies. the title itself definitely puts me in mind of the zee; it is indeed beautiful and dark.

ghost of the navigator: captures the beauty and horror of the zee very well, and Alexandria’s determination to survive the horror for the sake of the beautiful things. the recurring imagery of ghosts and dreams also fits with his ties to parabola.

devils price: this one comes from my heart’s desire playlist! the song opens with “the devil said sit and have yourself a glass”, and someone attempting to be charming and familiar despite being out to get you honestly works with almost all of the heart’s desire npcs. the chorus would be advice given by Alexandria to someone else, and it works especially well since she chose to end the marvellous.

what the water gave me: this one makes me think of Alexandria and Amelia. it’s somehow both loving, and has horrifying implications if you really think about it, especially the chorus. so that’s very them. but the beginning of the song is what puts me most in mind of SeaHeart.

I’ve talked about this idea before, but Xerxen would have an exceptional story about the power of art and the anti-monarchist movements in London. it’s called “The Art of Revolution”.

Decidedly revolutionary paintings have been springing up across London, almost all of them the work of one Rubbery Man. Is it vandalism or public art? Poignant and necessary, or inciting needless violence?
