Tsolarja
when i was deep in the throes of covid fever dreams i wondered what sort of "high fantasy" world i would make. i thought how perfect moles would be for dwarves, and what excellent little gnomes shrews would make. then when the word hoppits came into my head, it was over for me. i didn't get much sleep but sure did i world-build.
evil races are bullshit, so don't ascribe malice to any of my beautiful children here. their cultures are different from each other but they are all capable equally of the gamut of expression and action.
also, kings and queens and empires are bullshit. most races have developed egalitarian, participatory societies in Tsolarja. the only threats they face are from natural scarcity, wild monsters, and those who would wield power over the people.
send me an animal emoji and if i'm not sleeping or working, i'll tell you a fact about this place or these people.
A little robot dude with a plant brain!!!
Meet our new baby turkeys! We just got them from the farm supply store and are estimating that theyre 3-4 weeks old. Tried to get mostly toms but i guess we'll see later on. Hard to tell at this age.
Doin' 'sperimentz
Got a couple "root suckers" (that's what the folks 'round here call the stems that pop up from the root stock of fruit trees, I don't know the technical name) from my pear trees and a couple clippings from my pink blueberry bush.
Dipped em in rooting hormone and I'm gonna see if they take. The blueberries will be a gift for my sister in law and if the pear root stock takes I'm gonna try and graft next Springs pruning onto them and get some free pear trees
If that works, look out, everyone near me will be getting gift trees as fast as I can graft them
Dryads are perfect. I love trees, I love girls. I'm gay for dryads y'all.
Something that came up when I did the Parsec family NaNo - in deepspace, family ships, or informal/small group ships like the main character’s, are green spaces.
Plants need some kind of ecosystem, so there’s bugs, and chickens to eat the bugs, but you’ll find some kind of grass or ground cover plant underfoot outside of airlocks, control rooms, some bedrooms. Lots of pots and nooks filled with soil hanging off the walls at all elevations, with herbs and climbing plants.
Stations where people are charged for breathing usually don’t have plants in public areas to create a false scarcity, while Patrol needs to maintain a professional appearance by in-system standards, as much as they’d like to save the money and spend it elsewhere.
Parsec family stations would be outright jungles, just overflowing with trees and vines, because they can make it so that nothing important gets crushed or broken by tree roots and so on that’d make it unsafe.
