Today Solbrain was giving me all the feels about dolls.
So our guy in trouble this week is an old man who calls this doll, Maria, his granddaughter. She’s taken by a group of neighborhood ruffians who don’t like him.
The police get her back, and then we find out why she’s so important to him:
This is a real historical event, by the way. It happened shortly before WWII and, well…
Yeah. His wife and daughter were killed in an American air raid, but because they wanted to protect Maria, he takes care of the doll as a way to remember them (I’m not crying, you’re crying).
I remember reading about the “ambassador dolls” in an old issue of American Girl magazine, so that was pretty cool.
Thanks to @desertdollranch for the magazine scans!
