Soleb im Sandsturm

Wawa, ein Dorf im Nordsudan, zwischen dem zweiten und dritten Nilkatarakt. Sandsturm seit der letzten Nacht. Sand in den Haaren, in den Augen, zwischen den Zähnen, den Zehen, Sand überall. Ich folge einem Einheimischen runter zum mächtigen Nil. Mit einem Motorboot kämpfen wir uns über die Wellen - Krokodile auf einer Sandbank. Auf der anderen Seite ein Fußmarsch durch Felder und Palmenhaine. Aus dem gelben Sandsturmlicht schält sich der Soleb Tempel. Amenophis III hat ihn erbaut. Niemand weit und breit zwischen dem uralten Gemäuer. Ich verliere mich zwischen den Säulen, fühle mich wie ein Entdecker, fühle mich frei.

one of the two red granite lion statues from the Temple of the God Amon and King Amenhotep III at 'Mnnu-khai-m-Maat' (Mnnw-ḫˁj-m-M3ˁt, now called "soleb", north of the third cataract of the Nile); in the III century BCE King Amanislo of Meroë moved the lion statues to Napata where they were placed in front of the Royal Palace (B1200) along the processional avenue leading from it to the Temples of the city
