In the Fall/Winter of '94, I was an 8th grader w/ a growing fetish for sneakers; and there wasn't much more that I wanted other than these here @Reebok Kamikazes. The other 4 starters on my Little League basketball team and I were drooling over these when they made their debut on Shawn Kemp's feet up in Seattle. To show team unity, all 5 of us vowed to get a pair to ball in that season. But, I wasn't sure my parents would get them for me since the price point was a little higher than they normally were willing to spend for sneakers. When I got my @Eastbay catalogue for the holiday season I made sure to circle them and showed mom dukes @althea2256, and constantly emphasized to her the importance of me getting the Kamikaze's for Christmas. Christmas morning came and I wasn't too sure if they'd be under the tree waiting for me to break in. Christmas might've been ruined if I didn't get the only thing I wanted. Low and behold, my folks came through and hooked the kid up. I got my pair. There's only a few Christmases I distinctly remember as a kid, and this was one of them. I fell asleep later Christmas Day w/ them on my feet w/ Mobb Deep's "Shook Ones Pt. II" - which recently debuted on @Hot97, that I recorded on an old Maxwell cassette tape - blaring out my Walkman headphones. I dreamt about my team and I winning the championship in our Kamikazes. That same season we did go on to win the league championship in our age division, and a picture of me shooting a J during that game made it in the local newspaper (The Hour). Of course, my Kamikazes were predominately featured in the B&W pic. So when these released a couple of weeks ago, almost two decades later, you're damn right I was gonna cop 'em.
