Solubility of Gases in Terms of Flat Soda
How can I keep carbonated beverages more fizzy? The temperature and pressure of the environment play the biggest role: keep the beverage in a cool environment, and maintain as much pressure as possible. The solubility of a gas in water is directly proportional to the pressure of the gas (Henry's Law), so if you shake up your fizzy drink (builds the pressure) and then open it (release all of the built up pressure) your drink will be under less pressure, so the solubility will go down. If you leave your drink in the heat too long, as shown in another example, it will also turn flat.
