A friend and co-worker at best buy pitched me an idea about working on an iPhone case with one of their friend’s company logo on it. I kindly said yes as the idea stroke my interest. The design was simple text with a 50 Cal. bullet across the middle. Here is the design below.
Filled with ambition, I start working on the idea and after a couple of minutes into it I came to a sad conclusion. This was going to be difficult. The moment that I realized that I was going to spend a good half hour working on extract the image was when I started gathering photos from my phone. I noticed that I would have to extract the logo from a real photo, and convert it into a 2D graphic. the 2D graphic would then have to be converted into a 3D Model. It seemed difficult but I was able to create to get a logo onto my 3D Modeling tool. After loading the logo onto the 3D tool software, I started printing trinkets as test runs. The test results were a success, A Huge Success.
Here are the trinkets printed below.
I haven’t experimented in grabbing real photos and turning them into tangible graphic models. It took a while as I start learning how to shape and trim the photo but it was worth the effort. I was able to print them with any error and it came out better than I have ever though it would. The image had some rough edges but that is a tedious thing to worry about. The only thing that I need to work on now is how to design the iphone case.
If you have any questions or advices to give, please leave a comment below. I know i am still a novice at modeling (6 months into it so bare with me) but I am open to any ideas that you may have.
So with that… I bid you adieu.
