Lonely is something I am good at.

Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone. For the sad old earth must borrow it's mirth, But has trouble enough of its own. Sing, and the hills will answer; Sigh, it is lost on the air. The echoes bound to a joyful sound, But shrink from voicing care. Rejoice, and men will seek you; Grieve, and they turn and go. They want full measure of all your pleasure, But they do not need your woe. Be glad, and your friends are many; Be sad, and you lose them all. There are none to decline your nectared wine, But alone you must drink life's gall. Feast, and your halls are crowded; Fast, and the world goes by. Succeed and give, and it helps you live, But no man can help you die. There is room in the halls of pleasure For a long and lordly train, But one by one we must all file on Through the narrow aisles of pain.
Ella Wheeler Wilcox, "Solitude"
Some Observations
1. I am not a crafty person. Fabric, yarn, needles, hooks, glue, buttons, sewing machines, and other objects of craftery scream in terror when they see me coming. But, for some reason, every-so-often, I get this weird itch (a combo of extreme-boredom and misguided muse [dammit, inspire my WRITING, muse!]) and attempt to create non-linguistic, non-prosaic, non-poetic, non-literary things (such as hats). Inevitably, bad things happen.
2. I am currently a MAYBE teacher. I may be teaching...depending on enrollment. The nerdy part of me is psyched and planning my scholarly morning coffee and lectures. The anarchist in me hates the thought of teaching. I thought I had one more semester of semi-freedom and pseudo-irresponsibility.
3. Sometimes, solitude sucks. Specifically, when you don't feel up to reading (a rare, but painful experience) and you've already spent way-too-much (that's a specific mathematical sum) this summer by yourself...
3.5 On a side note, is misanthropy ever excusable? 'Cause I may have a serious case of it this evening. *scowls*
