51. Solkyri + Treebeard double headline with support from hubris. and Myriad Drone, Northcote Social Club 24/11
Wow, WHAT a night this was for post-rock music! Another absolutely incredible lineup put on by the unstoppable Bird's Robe Records. We started the night with Myriad Drone, who were brand new to me but proceeded to completely blow me away with their set of emotional post-metal. Super stoked to learn as I'm writing this that they'll be supporting Russian Circles next year - yay!
Next up were hubris. from Switzerland. I only started listening to them ahead of this tour and man I wish I'd started sooner. Most of the crowd I think were here for this set, which was FRUSTRATING to me - if you liked this, you'll love the next two bands! Anyway. Intense, melodic, heavy, immersive, and the nicest guys to boot. I really hope they make their way back here soon!
And now Solkyri. My love for these sweet dudes only grows stronger every time I see them! We got a slightly different set to when we saw them in Sydney earlier this year, which was awesome! This was a celebration for 10 years of Are You My Brother? so it was super special to hear songs from that record too, notably With Strawberries Like Dead Men. Time Away into This Can't Wait! will get me every single time until I die as well. We were also lucky enough to get a new song, so hopefully a new record is imminent!
And lastly came Melbourne heavyweights Treebeard! They blessed us with two new songs - Great White and an unreleased track named Incognita which absolutely FUCKED. Treebeard also have a Russian Circles support slot and they deserve it so much - I feel like they are super underappreciated and I want everyone to hear them!
Nights like this are why I'd really struggle to leave Melbourne tbh - this whole thing cost just $27! We are so, so lucky to have such an incredible thriving and friendly scene!
