i mean, this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s been following me for a while that this is my most active ship rn and i love the absolute fuck out of, all thanks to @enigmatias being one of the best ship partners i could’ve ever asked for. just the amount of work that’s gone into this ship for the past year, and we’re not even done yet ( me vc: ALL THE AUS ), honestly it’s been a dream ride. and also enemies to friends to lovers is one of my biggest, best loved tropes if done well. not to mention them overcoming the past together and working through their issues? we love to see it.

I have changed Deadly Fortune’s canon for my own version of Nero, so he’s no longer adopted by Credo’s/Kyrie’s family. It doesn’t mean he wasn’t close to them, by far Credo and Kyrie remain the most influential people in his life. Their parents did work at the orphanage, were aware of the difficulties he had in the environment, and did invite him into their home on many occasions but ultimately were struck down by roaming demons in sudden tragedy. And while Credo had been the one to invite him to live with the two of them, this was a courtesy to his late parents, and Nero was already 15-16 years old when this did happen.
So my Nero has always been more of an OUTSIDER LOOKING IN.
He did learn a lot from watching, especially the dynamics around Credo’s and Kyrie’s household, and to a lesser extent other families across Fortuna despite being ostracized himself. And he always had an idealized view of having one as a child, making up reasons for the ambiguity of his parentage ( whether they got killed, gave him up for other reasons than the rumours the city gave him, or were going to wind up coming back for him ). But as he grew older he eventually stopped defending them from the onslaught of rumours from the town, he stopped looking for resemblance in strangers and eventually stopped making excuses for them that they didn’t deserve. They abandoned him, and as far as he saw it, he should care less, and start focusing on who he did have: Kyrie and Credo.
He knows and understands what a family should be, what a family is, and he decided to make it with the people who stay by his side, who accept him with the knowledge that he’s not human. Credo? Kyrie? The orphans? Nico? They’re all family. Even branching out to the main DMC office to some tentative extent.
Which is why when Dante hits him blind-side: ( HE’S YOUR FATHER ), he’s left staggered and stunned. Up until that point, flesh-and-blood family was long out of the picture. The missing piece haunting him for all his life clicks into place, and immediately he tries to prevent what could be lost to all of them. To save the twins from experiencing what he had with Credo, and keep both his father and uncle from killing each other in one fatal final duel.
With Vergil in particular, their entire relationship is a rough patch they themselves have to work at and mutually build on, and there needs to be effort made by both sides. Him severing Nero’s arm is always going to be the hanging blade between them, and no Nero doesn’t forgive him for what he did. Despite understanding what V spilled out to him, and the choices which ultimately led to Nero making the choice to save him as well.
All and all, Nero understands that family by choice is just as important as family by blood. And even without any family to speak of, he still made his own.

worst ship: Idk, I don’t really have any ships I mind. I personally don’t romantically ship Legolas and Gimli but I wouldn’t describe them as a BAD ship. I don’t know. Maybe Gollum x anyone because hell no.
