It's the seventh time that Soojung has tried contacting him via phone, six more sighs and four lazy groans tumbling from her lips -- hand-in-hand with the dial tone each time, but, in return receiving a forwarded call. Not only was it insulting, but it was simultaneously worrying. Kyungsoo never forwarded her calls, he'd always pick up immediately with that same singsong voice, something that made her feel welcomed from the start. With absence of that, she was clearly feeling dejected.
The amount of time they'd known each other is far beyond her now, it could be weeks, or months -- all she knows is that it feels like an eternity. He was one of those rare people who felt familiar, someone she could easily tie a bond to and not have any intentions--nor worry--of even coming close to breaking it.
Soojung wasn't that fond of kids, sure, surrounding herself by them occasionally wasn't a problem. But she had a low tolerance for people in general, especially children, there's only so much she can take before drawing the line; but with Kyungsoo in her life, all of that was different. She could spend hours with both him and Ahreum, seeing it as though their company was something she thoroughly enjoyed. She'd even take time off to watch over Kyungsoo's apartment, and save him a little more money by preventing him from taking his child to the daycare/hiring a babysitter, etc.
Nowadays things seem to be getting further away. She began to close Kyungsoo out, distancing from both him and her, in exchange for shrinking into the trill, catastrophic idol life. (Not on purpose, of course.)
It was hard to juggle her career, friendships, her girlfriend, and Kyungsoo -- but she never put him anywhere below any of those things. They were all tasks she had to tackle one-at-a-time, and didn't label any of them as more or less important than the other, but it was misconstrued as so. Soojung can't blame him if he ever decides to pull that card, she'd be pretty ticked off if she was in his or any other person's position, too. But the matter was simply out of her hands.
Hours pass, and she finds herself at the door of his apartment, and she drums the expanse of her calloused fingers to-and-fro along the door's face until she’s sure she’s become borderline rude. The door opens after eleven, loudest and-most-annoying volume of knocks she could produce in that very millisecond among its surface, her eyes leveled upon the pale face for a once-over. It’s a quick, blink-there-and-back
"I tried to call, but you never answered." She states a little sourly, her choice of tone was not one deserving of favors. It was rude, childish and everything you don't want to hear from a full-grown woman. The fixation of her attention solely on the uneven, bitten-down crescents of her fingernails pressed against the threshold of the door, she blinked another glance, eyebrows furrowing in distaste of the scenario she's relaying for the taller boy at her front.
Despite her behavior, she was politely invited into the small apartment where, after a cup of tea and apple cider, they got off on their personal subject. This formed anxiety deep in her stomach, but this was also a healthy act of confrontation; and no matter how much she'd deny it, they needed to talk about it.
"I'm sorry that I haven't been around as much. I know you're upset about it, stop pretending." Sincerity poisoned her, and she knew it'd help, but she couldn't stop her gaze from meeting the distance instead of his. When he replied with those words that fell upon deaf ears, the bend of her elbows pressed against her knees, which made her time spent on the couch a great but also uncomfortable one, and she feigned the face of someone who was listening intently.
Soojung wasn't ignoring Kyungsoo, and not acting accordingly to his promises on purpose, it was only because the one thing she could focus on was how he was lying right through his smile. No, she didn't know what he really wanted to say, but she automatically knew it wasn't that.
"You're lying. I can see it." This wasn't an act of accusation, she wasn't pointing fingers to offend him, this was spreading the truth over a field of lies. "You miss me, don't you?" The seams of her lips twisted up, forming into this... façade that would hide the lies she even made herself believe. "Well. I miss you, too."
