Solus Games: Gwen
Just some thoughts while I work on her re-design (and the whole story rework, let's be honest, it's an everlasting work in progress)
Under the cut because it's pretty random.
Gwen is a certified first-year Fire mage when she starts the Games. (Irisid is not really certified, he's a fighter, and rules are looser for them; Rin is a first year spellcaster - this was the only condition under which he could join the games at his young age of 13). She is very well-read, but is a bit of a city girl, and has little experience outside of the university. She tends to be a snob, and doesn't get well with many people her age - her best friend at the university is a boy younger than her, who essentially decided that they would be friends.
Fire mages are rare and tend to have bad reputations - most of them end up either in the military or as mercenaries. Gwen is trying her best to avoid either of those. She can stay and teach at the university, but that comes with a lot of strings attached and she's not sure about that. She also doesn't like to advertise the fact that she's a Fire mage, and since she doesn't have to wear clothes that indicate her affinity, she chooses not to. Most people who meet her assume she is an Earth mage.
Of all spirits, Ri is considered to be the most temperamental and elusive. Gai also get a bad rep for being standoffish and uncaring, but they're not considered as dangerous. There are also no Gai mages, due to them not being one of the four Major spirits.
Gwen lost her home to a fire as a child, after which her mother (the only surviving relative) abandoned her - she is possibly a fire mage who lost control and started the blaze in the first place. That said, when she finds out her her affinity is to Fire, she initially refuses to become a mage, but eventually reconsiders.
