Enate perhaps represents the future of wine making. This winery is not stuck in the dogma of tempranillo aged for decades in oak. Rather they experiment with grapes from around the world and produce for example a Gewurztraniner almost as good as those from the Alsace or Alto Adige. More than this, they also eschew the use of chemicals, no artificial pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers are used. They know that they are custodians whose role is to nurture the soil. As for the wines, well they are consistently excellent to outstanding. Take this one: More pale red than rose in colour, a Bardolino in looks a great Beaujolais in manners. On the nose it's fruit fruit fruit with a big rich cherry kiss, raspberry wine vinegar, redcurrants and black pepper. As for the taste, sweetish red berries and blackcurrants give way to a sherbet acid wave that lingers and persists. But it's still all about the fruit. And all this for ten Euros.
