I still, generally speaking, love the show. The cast is fab, stylistically it’s maybe the most unique show on television right now, it’s ballsy, and I enjoy some of the campiness. But Coven was a mess. They were just throwing shit at the wall to see what stuck, and the result was a season which felt like it was constantly cheating the audience - I mean, basically every character was killed off and subsequently resurrected at one point or another. Any writer who hasn’t got their head firmly up their ass (yeah, I’m looking at you Murphy) knows that is a huge no-no because it completely eliminates any threat that the characters pose and makes you feel like everything you’re watching is completely redundant because it could all be easily reversed in the next episode. It was just several “shock moments” strung together with poor continuity and lazy writing. Coven wasn’t about story. It was about moments.
