After the reveal of a new main Sonic game for 2022, fans were quick on trying to get to the bottom of it, and they have found it, through an underlying code in files uploaded to SEGA’s press box.
Thanks to dataminers and game moders, the name for the new Sonic game has come to light. I can verify and confirm that, at the moment, the 2022 Sonic game is gonna be named Sonic Rangers.
This has raised attention in regards to a possible leak made by an anonymous user in January 2021 that relayed information about a possible Sonic game named Sonic Rangers, which would feature an open world for Sonic to explore and some boss battles on the way, an approach similar to Breath of the Wild, but focusing more on Sonic’s speed.
From now on, I’m gonna dwell into possible spoilers from this plausible leak, so if you want to avoid possible spoilers, you can stop reading here.
Because the leaker decided to be edgy and because Sonic negativism gets clicks, I’m going to be objective and direct to the point on what was stated:
The game will feature an open world, populated with enemies, items, puzzles and platforming challenges.
Completing puzzles, challenges, enemies rewards XP, which can be redeemed in a skill treee.
Skill tree unlocks abilities like the “spincycle”, where when the player holds Y, Sonic will start to trace a line behind him, and if the player creates a circle with it, it attacks all the enemies inside the circle.
There are bosses spread through the open world, defeating them grants orbs.
If the player gets enough orbs, they can take Sonic to a portal where he goes to “cyberspace”.
Cyberspace levels are like Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations levels.
If the player beats these cyberspace leves within a small frame of time grants the player Chaos Emeralds.
There is a human ghost girl character that interacts with Sonic through the demo.
There are rumours that the story for the game revolves between Sonic and that human ghost girl.
Things that point towards this having a chance of being true is Sonic doing a spincycle himself in the teaser for Sonic Rangers.
