Extremely Exhausted Starters Part 2

Shit. Was he talking out loud again? At this point, he can’t tell. It’s easier for him to think that way, but Aiba seems...concerned. Usually she has at least some hint of judgement in her tone, but right now he can tell...no matter how much she’s trying to keep it neutral, a hint of worry is bleeding through.
He puts a hand to his face, closing his eyes momentarily. He just needs to get through this.
“It’s fine, Aiba. I’m fine. It’s just...a bit longer. Come on, I’m so close... There has to be something...something we missed.”
He looks at the crime scene photos again, skimming over the bodies--all killed in different ways, but with clues to the next murder. Aside from the most recent one, he didn’t feel they held anything important. The dolls in the rooms...were those important? They had definitely been left there by the killer...
“Three dolls...two dolls...will there only be one next time? I can’t let there be a next time... There’s significance in there somewhere, I know it...”
Date...
Oh shit. He was seriously saying all of this out loud, wasn’t he? Okay. Maybe a minor break.
“I’ll get some coffee...that’ll do, right? I’ll ask one of the other detectives for help on this when they get in...”
